Name pretty much any action movie/action TV show out there, and chances are good that actress Adrianne Palicki will have been on it. She's currently working on Season Three of Agents of SHIELD as Bobbi "Mockingbird" Morse. She's the umpteenth bad-ass female agent to come out of that show, but now she's bringing something else to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
You remember Mockingbird, right?
No? How about now? She's super tall, has great hair, ridiculously good looking, and carries two sticks.
Well, evidently, she kicked so much butt as Mockingbird on SHIELD that the producers have decided that she and (cinematic) ex-husband Lance Hunter should have their own super spy show in the MCU. That, and the character is so interesting and charismatic. And they're going to call it Marvel's Most Wanted. The spin-off idea was originally floated a few months ago, but was apparently shot down and both Hunter and Mockingbird would stay on SHIELD.
Guess they changed their minds. We don't know too much about it yet but they did say this:
Insiders say the series is not a spinoff, per se, but rather an entirely new project solely focused on the two characters to continue their story. Though plot details are scarce at this point, “Marvel’s Most Wanted” will follow the pair and their adventures together (Variety.com).
It sounds to me like Hunter and Morse will break off from Coulson's main SHIELD team and establish their own, under Director Coulson's orders, of course. Hopefully it will show the two going after bad guys/Inhumans/enhanced individuals that Coulson and the Council deem too dangerous. Most Wanted makes it sound like SHIELD has a Most Wanted list like the FBI and wants to start to scratch bad guys off of it. Except these bad guys have powers or exceptional physical abilities. Another possibility is Hunter and Morse going after escapees from the Fridge, SHIELD's secret prison.
I don't know if this will happen during or after SHIELD 's third season ends. It's really too early for speculation, but that's just how I roll.
Thankfully, Adrianne Palicki has played gun-wielding bad-asses before in other movies.
She especially stood out to me in the underrated (yet still mostly bad) second GI Joe movie as Lady Jaye. She played a special ops soldier who's good with a gun and thinks on her feet.
It seems a role like Marvel's Most Wanted requires guns and batons, but also a little classic espionage to catch their targets unaware. Kind of like The Avengers meets US Marshals. Or the 1960's British spy TV show Avengers.
Pretty much everything Mockingbird has been doing on SHIELD. I don't mind having a SHIELD spin-off, if only to have the original cast of the show come back into the spotlight.
I don't have too much to say about the awesomely named Nick Blood as the equally awesome Lance Hunter. I just haven't seen him in much except Agents of SHIELD. The show did hint as a background as both a mercenary and a British special forces operative (who just up and quit one day). We'll probably get more of his background in either SHIELD or Most Wanted. As well as the obligatory show romance factor. The show will have to dance around their background as ex-husband and ex-wife yet current lovers.
This show has so much potential, and I'm looking forward to seeing if a pilot will spin off a new network Marvel show. Too bad it probably won't be in time to piggyback onto Captain America Civil War. But, we may soon have new seasons of SHIELD, Agent Carter and hopefully, Most Wanted....
