Who's the best man to sell expensive stick water to other men? Well, Dior happens to think it is Johnny Depp.
The famous fragrance company recently snapped up the Pirates of the Caribbean to be the face of their new men's fragrance, Dior Sauvage. It seems Dior think Depp's rugged good looks and rebellious attitude towards Australian animal immigration law is just the think to get other aspiring successful men to cough up some dough.
Dior Sauvage is the first men's fragrance from the perfumery in over 10 years, while it is only their seventh men's fragrance since their establishment in 1947. According to Demachy, who oversees Dior's Paris based operations, Dior Sauvage is a masculine, outdoor fragrance, which combines man's "inborn animal and a natural sophistication."
Of course, visually selling a smell is always tough, so Dior have decided to cast Depp in a new short movie to show off the mysticism around Dior Sauvage. The film, which will be directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, will feature Depp as a drifter wandering away from the big city. He apparently says, "I have to get out of here. Which way? I don't know" before climbing into a 1969 Dodge Charger and heading off towards Joshua Tree in the Californian desert. Where did the Dodge Charger come from? Why Joshua Tree? I don't know. To be honest, I think the storyline could do with some work. In any case, the film will release on September 2nd.
The actual fragrance, however, was released today and can be purchased as a deodorant spray for $45 or in a 100ml bottle for $140. I guess they have to pay for hiring Johnny Depp somehow.
