Could Sandor Clegane, better known as "The Hound" on Game of Thrones still be alive and kicking? Actor Rory McCann, who plays him, was spotted near the GoT set in Belfast recently. You may recall, his character was left for dead by Arya Stark at the end of Season 4, but unless he just wanted to hang out on the set, the following news could prove that there might be some truth to the likelihood of his return.
So, The Hound asked Arya to kill him and put him out of his misery after Brienne of Tarth nearly did the deed herself in their epic fight in which Brienne planned to secure Arya Stark as she had promised her mother, Catelyn Stark, she would. That didn't exactly go to plan, but she did defeat The Hound, leaving him badly wounded.
Arya left The Hound to suffer a brutal and agonizing death rather than ending things for him right then and there. She took his money and ran, rather than crossing another name off her "hit list" of sorts.
We kind of assumed he was dead as a doorknob at this point, and it felt like we probably weren't going to see him again. However, if you think about it, we never actually see him die. Of course, this means speculative fans like myself and others have made some guesses about what his future on the show could be.
Popular fan site Watchers on the Wall reports that local fans of the show have seen McCann at a Belfast hotel often used by actors, cast, and crew from the show which could mean that he's going to be in some flashback scenes... but more excitingly, it might mean that he actually isn't dead after all.
Which would mean...
Arya, who is now being trained to be "faceless" by the Many-Faced God, would have to probably kill him for real - since he's on her list and all. He was kind of a father-figure to her. Or at least an uncle that she definitely depended on for safety. She had a love-hate relationship with The Hound, and I think the majority of us GoT fans would like to see that dynamic return.
Some of the best dialogue on the entire show came from these two's conversations. Arya's bratty wit and The Hound's pessimism matched perfectly together on the show. I guess we'll have to wait until April 2016 to know for sure.
Stay tuned for more news on The Hound's return to the show!
