Happiest of birthdays to Hollywood icon Sean Connery! He turns 85 today.

The actor, born in 1930 in Edinburgh, Scotland, is, of course, best known for his role of James Bond, with Connery considered the definitive version. Connery is also known for playing Professor Henry Jones in the Indiana Jones franchise, and playing a host of legendary characters from history: King Arthur, Robin Hood, and King Richard, to name a few. Other classic films of his include The Hunt for Red October, The Untouchables, The Name of the Rose, Highlander, Murder on the Orient Express, and The Great Train Robbery.

During his time on screen, Connery has won an Academy Award, two BAFTAs, and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award. He received Kennedy Center Honors in 1999, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000. And in 1999, with his swagger strong as ever, he was voted "Sexiest Man of the Century" by People magazine at age 69.

While the commercial and critical failure of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen drove him into retirement, which, Connery has famously said, is just "too much damned fun," Connery has left behind a legacy of film and accomplishments that not many actors could ever hope to match.

So here's to you, Sir Sean Connery! May you live another 85 years.
