Happiest of 57th birthdays to Hollywood director Tim Burton!

The eccentric, eclectic, and trailblazing director has been a force in the industry for three decades now. As an auteur, Burton's style is unmistakeable. Whether it's his love of lonely outcasts, his trademark black and white color scheme and gothic style, his ambitious female characters, and his whimsical, fairy tale settings, you immediately know when you're watching a Tim Burton film.

As a walking cult classic creator, Burton has contributed some of the most beloved films to Hollywood canon, including Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman and Batman Returns, and Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Other notable films include Ed Wood, Mars Attacks!, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Big Eyes, Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Barber Street, and the recent reimaginings of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland.

But even with all that in his legacy, Burton is still a tireless creator. His upcoming projects include the long-awaited Beetlejuice 2 and the adaptation of [Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children](tag:311797).

We could always use a little more whimsy in this world, so happy birthday, Tim Burton! Your stories have shaped us all.
