In 2013 movie director Damien Zygote and special FX make up artist Tom Devlin began shooting a bizarre movie series in rural Maine. Amish Devil is the story of an outlaw Amish community riding out the apocalypse in rural Maine. The movie focuses on a 16 yr. old girl named Faith and follows her nightmarish journey into madness.
Even more bizarre is the strange story behind the inking of this unusual movie deal. In late 2012 executive producer Joel Mark Puorro had a business meeting with Roger Devlin (1313fx / American Nightmare) where in they discussed a possible collaboration between Maine artist Damien Zygote and Tom Devlin who at the time, was fresh off of the syfy channel's 1st season of FACE OFF.
After an hour long meeting the foundation of a trade agreement was being formed. All it needed now was for Tom & Damien to work out the devil in the details. After a series of emails and phone calls, Tom Devlin flew up to Maine from Fort Myers Florida to meet with Damien Zygote and to finalize one of the strangest movie deals in horror movie history.
A triple feature deal. 3 movies Directed by Damien Zygote with Tom Devlin providing Special FX Make Up and Creature Creation in exchange for a mint condition 1989 Silver Buick Hearse. This was the creation of SilverHearse Productions.
Both Tom Devlin and Damien Zygote are no strangers to using unconventional means for accomplishing incredible things. While Damien Zygote had haunted the underground music scene as a recording artist, Tom had earned himself a reputation for being a Hollywood bad boy in the micro budget movie world along with his wife Lola Devlin.
After spending the day together at the Damien Zygote movie compound in Belfast, Maine. Tom & Damien hit it off and contracts were signed. AMISH DEVIL was on it's way to becoming a reality. The next few months would be incredibly challenging for first time Writer / Director Damien Zygote. The formation of Mirror Door Entertainment led to the casting of many talented actors and performers for the project including one actor who would become the lead female role. Vixie Vega was an unknown actor from Rockport, Maine when she submitted her audition for the highly demanding role of Faith in Amish Devil.
With casting for the movie underway and the lead role filled, Damien looked to the underground music and movie scene that was already existing in Maine for his next addition to his cast and crew. These included Actor / Writer Shawn French (Escape From Jesus Island / The Wrong House), Actor / Director Shane Grant (Cemetery Theater), Actor Ruth Phelps (TROMA / Poultrygeist), Actor / Stuntman Jesse Jet Villarreal (RedBull Art Of Motion / American Ninja), Actress / Model Carrie LaChance (Maxim Magazine / CarrieLaChance.com), Actor / Writer Bill Cassinelli (Scary Tales / Horror Tales.666) and radio personality Dave Issac (Stephen King's 100.3 FM WKIT) just to name a few.
While Damien Zygote scouted Talent and shooting locations in Maine, Tom Devlin was developing make up concepts and creature FX at his 1313fx studio in Ft. Myers Florida.
After 3 months of casting and several friendly favors later the entire cast and crew was assembled and ready to shoot. In June of 2013 Primary shooting began at several different locations in mid coast Maine and the surrounding areas. The primary location for shooting Amish Devil was none other than the renown Hegstrom Hill in Brooks, Maine.
A wide assortment of talented extras and special guest appearances gave way to many amazing performances. Below is a photo of the partial cast and crew from a bar scene that appears in Amish Devil shot at Bowen's Tavern in Belfast Maine.
