1. Jared Leto - 30 Seconds to Mars
Since 1998, Jared Leto has been the frontman of the band he started with older brother Shannon. Currently the band consists of the two Leto brothers and guitarist Tomo Miličević. In 2012, the band released the documentary film Artifact that chronicled the making of their third album This Means War while being sued by their record label for 30 million dollars.
2. Jada Pinkett Smith - Wicked Wisdom
Jada’s the lead singer of the hard core metal band that she formed in 2002. The band has toured with Britney Spears and performed during 2005’s Ozzfest. They’re currently working on their third album.
3. Ryan Gosling - Dead Man’s Bones
Started in 2005, the rock duo consists of Gosling and his friend Zach Shields. They’ve released one self-titled album which features the Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir (started by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea). When performing, Gosling uses the alias "Baby Goose.”
4. Donald Glover - Childish Gambino
The former Community star has been performing under the moniker Childish Gambino since 2011. In 2014, he was nominated for two Grammys: Best Rap Album for Because The Internet and Best Rap Performance for his single, 3005.
5. Craig Robinson - The Nasty Delicious
This Hot Tub Machine alumni also has a band with his brother Chris Rob. The band has performed on an episode of The Office, and on the season finale of the seventh season of Last Comic Standing.
6. Jason Schwartzman – Coconut Records
Nicolas Cage’s cousin not only has acting chops, but he’s also a talented musician as he was the drummer and a songwriter for the band Phantom Planet (they sung The O.C.’s theme song “California”) and he’s now a solo act and has released two records. He’s also sung the theme song for Bored to Death and composed the musical score for Funny People.
7. Zooey Deschanel - She and Him
It all started in 2008 with the demo that she sent musician M. Ward and the rest is history. Their collaboration has resulted in two albums so far. They also hope to expand the micro-theme song (“Who’s That Girl? It’s Jess”) from Deschanel’s sitcom New Girl.
8. Zoë Kravitz - Lolawolf
The Dope star is the frontwoman for the band which is named after her younger siblings Lola and Nakoa-Wolf Momoa (their father is Aquaman and former Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa). Kravitz started the band while filming The Road Within. The band released a self-titled EP in 2013 and in 2014 supported Lily Allen, Miley Cyrus, and Warpaint on tour. This isn’t Kravitz’s first time being in a band. In 2009, she formed the band Elevator Fight and they performed at the South by Southwest music festival that same year.
