Amendment: This article originally stated that the pictured halloween costume below was made available by Spirit Halloween. We have since been informed that the mentioned costume is not affiliated with the company in any way. Moviepilot would like to apologize for this error. Spirit Halloween's version of this outfit can be found pictured here and at the end of this article.

Based on Caitlin Jenner's now infamous Vanity Fair cover, Anytime Costumes has launched a controversial costume in preparation for the festive season. It's named 'Call Me Caitlyn,' and, unsurprisingly, has created a huge Internet shit storm.

The item in question features a white bodice, hot pants, sash and wig, and is a rather shoddy interpretation of the outfit worn in Caitlyn's seminal shoot for glossy fashion publication, Vanity Fair. You know, the widely discussed issue in which Caitlyn unveiled her feminine identity for the first time.

Retailing at $74.99, the offending product is now available to buy at Anytime Costumes.

Fans and members of the transgender community are outraged, claiming that the costume encourages transphobia and have taken to Twitter to call for an end on "cashing in on bigotry."

Transfeminine Genderqueer activist, Addison Rose Vincent, has launched a petition on calling to Spirit Halloween (who had been confused as the creators of the outfit) to cancel the product. She wrote:

To Spirit Halloween: We demand that you revoke your ideas and production of a Caitlyn Jenner costume for Halloween.

With a reputation of sexist, racist, and culturally appropriative costumes, we are concerned that this costume will continue your oppressive tradition with a transphobic costume of Caitlyn Jenner.

To make a costume out of a marginalized identity reduces that person and community to a stereotype for privileged people to abuse. In this case, if you follow through with production of a Caitlyn Jenner costume, cisgender people will purchase it to make fun of her and our community.

'Do not turn Cailtyn Jenner into a costume. Your profit will only lead to greater transphobia and marginalization of an already at-risk community. Much appreciated, Addison Rose Vincent.'

However, Spirit Halloween's PR spokeswoman, Trisha Lombardo, has responded to the backlash saying that the costume is meant to be flattering, rather than offensive.

Caitlyn Jenner has proven to be the most important real-life superhero of the year, and Spirit Halloween is proud to carry the costume that celebrates her.

Note that this is in response to Spirit Halloween's official version of the costume, pictured below:
