With the upcoming [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158) cover story being featured in this weeks (Thursday, August 27th) edition of Empire Magazine, Star Wars is set to dominate movie-related headlines once again. A couple days before the release of the impending issue, J.J. Abrams gave fans a little taste of what readers can expect from the Empire article.
The biggest bit of news received from the preview is that Kylo Ren, a previously confirmed villain to be played by Adam Driver, is not going to be a Sith in The Force Awakens. Instead, Abrams claims that “[Kylo Ren] works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.” Supreme Leader Snoke is a performance-captured digital character, voiced and played by Andy Serkis. There are still a lot of question marks surrounding Serkis' character, as only a minuscule amount of information has been released to this point.
Although there is not a lot to take away from this statement alone, it does appear that Abrams and company are putting a lot of thought into the development and backstory into the new characters - which is certainly an encouraging sign for fans everywhere.
Along with this news, images of Kylo Ren, as well as other characters from the film, have been released by Empire Magazine.
Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens is slated for release on December 18th, and also stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Lupita Nyong’o, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Max von Sydow.
