It's official: [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158) is taking over IMAX. The massive December 18th premiere had previously been confirmed for IMAX theaters along with the initial release, but now, it seems as though The Force Awakens is reaching for dominance. For four weeks, it will officially be the only film shown in IMAX theaters across the world, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Emperor would be proud.

THR reports that the film will be shown on 375 to 400 screens domestically and more than 400 abroad, but the final count is yet to be determined.

This isn't the first time IMAX has given a single film all of it's screens -- Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy was given the same treatment -- but what many are certain of is the possibility of The Force Awakens beating the still-fresh record sales of Jurassic World. One sequence of the film is confirmed to have been filmed on IMAX cameras, taking advantage of the massive screens to bring an entire galaxy to life in an all-new way.

While I'm sure you already have the date marked on your calendar, Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens worldwide on December 18th.
