A Point of Geeks report

What is better than a horror or comedy movie? A horror-comedy movie, of course! The sub-genre has been relatively successful over the years. Movies from Shaun of the Dead to Zombieland have proven that a healthy balance between laughter and impaling undead corpses can actually be found. Writer and director Christopher Landon is looking to add the next cult favorite to the list with his upcoming movie, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.

Horror-comedies have jumpstarted the careers of many notable actors, such as Simon Pegg and Jesse Eisenberg. The next actor looking to get a similar boost now is Tye Sheridan. The acclaimed young actor already made some noise by playing against Matthew McConaughey in Mud. Sheridan will hit the mainstream radar next year, though, when he takes over the role of Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse. He stars as one of three teenaged scouts that must band together and utilize their resourcefulness to survive a zombie massacre in the upcoming movie. R-rated action films have found success recently, examples being Kingsman: The Secret Service and next year’s highly-anticipated movie, Deadpool, so surely this film has the chance to be a sleeper success.

This looks like the type of movie that knows exactly what it wants to be. Director Christopher Landon (son of Little House on the Prairie’s Michael) has a wealth of experience in the horror genre. He has written four of the Paranormal Activity movies and directed The Marked Ones. So, it should be fun to see him subvert audience’s expectations with comedy when they are expecting jump-scares. The supporting cast features Cloris Leachman and Patrick Schwarzenegger (Yes, it’s his son), so it is absolutely worth checking out.

Official synopsis:

Three scouts and lifelong friends join forces with one badass cocktail waitress to become the world’s most unlikely team of heroes. When their peaceful town is ravaged by a zombie invasion, they’ll fight for the badge of a lifetime and put their scouting skills to the test to save mankind from the undead.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse opens on October 30th, 2015, just in time for Halloween.
