I am so excited about the recent news about Groot! I know we all assumed that Vin Diesel would return, and bring Groot with him, but having it confirmed is a great feeling!
When it was announced a few months ago that the new movie would be called Guardians of the Galaxy 2, I couldn't help but think about where we might see our team of outlaws go. Who else is returning? Who else are we going to see?
Old acquaintances are definitely returning
Star-Lord, Rocket, Drax, and Gamora are definitely coming back to grace us with their not so graceful-ness. Now Groot is in their midst as well!
However, there is another person returning, Nebula. She was on Ronan's side in the first film, but after that lovely sister chit-chat at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, she disappeared. Could we see her return as a some one other than a villain? It does seem a little more likely now.
But wait, there's more!
Star Lord finds his father
James Gunn has had this storyline plotted for quite awhile now. In June, Collider held an interview and said:
We should also expect to “learn a lot about fathers” which should please comicbook fans.
Like other fans, I believe this means we finally get to meet Peter Quill's dad! It will be interesting to see how this storyline plays out. Is it going to be the full plotline, or just a subplot?
But there is an even bigger question that I can't wait to see the answer to. Who is Peter Quill's father? In the comics, a man called Jason of Spartax is Peter Quill's father. However, Gunn has told us that he found the father a bit boring. This means he has to find a whole new character for the role!
Who do I think could handle this?
Yes, I do know that this had been said before, but I think that it seems even more likely as we get closer to finding out for sure.
Recently, in an article on Screenrant here, there comes a rumor that Adam Warlock's alter-ego is going to be in The Avengers: Infinity War. Now wouldn't it be interesting for us to see Adam Warlock grow into this character instead of him just showing up, unannounced in his altered state?
So why do I think that he could be Peter Quill's father? At the beginning of the movie, which I now skip unless I need a good cry, we hear Peter's mother say this:
You're so like your daddy, you even look like him. And he was an angel, composed of pure light...
And who looks like he is composed of pure light?
I know, a weak argument there, but there are other reasons it would be great to see Adam Warlock join the MCU in this way!
We need one more Infinity Stone
I still fully believe that there will be one of the two remaining stones in Doctor Strange, but that still leaves one floating around in space. In the comics, Adam Warlock has the Soul Gem. This is what he uses after being injured fighting against Thanos. It is also through this that he returns as Magus. So, him being in Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 could help his timeline work well, especially if they are bringing his alternative self to the next Avengers movie!
So do I think it's a possibility? Absolutely. Would I want this to happen? Yes! But all I can do is form an opinion and wait. Same as everyone else.
