Kingdom Hearts has been a fan favorite franchise from the first game in 2002, combining a fast-paced action RPG with the nostalgia of Disney worlds and characters. Since then, multiple spin off/sequels to the hit video game have been release across different platforms (PS2, PSP, Nintendo DS, etc.). The newest installment, Kingdom Hearts 3, has been making some noise in the gaming world with the previews to the new gameplay at E3 and the announcement of some of the new worlds that will make their debut.
In each installment, the worlds have been getting bigger and bigger by either developing on one that already exists in the KH universe (such as expanding Hercules' world beyond just the Coliseum) or creating brand new ones (such as Pride Lands or Port Royal). In Kingdom Hearts 3, Kingdom of Corona from Tangled and San Fransokyo of Big Hero 6 are going to be 2 of the new worlds being introduced. Being able to fight along side Flynn Rider and his trusty frying pan or flying with Baymax as your wingman sounds too good to be true!
Other sites such as Nerdist, Game Rant, Watch Mojo, and moviepilot have already posted their favorite Disney movies they would like to see make their way into the game. Some movies such as Frozen, Toy Story, Wreck-it Ralph, Star Wars, and the Marvel Cinema Universe have been heavy talking points from almost all theorists. However, Disney has a LONG list of untapped potential that is begging to get a little TLC from a new generation of Disnerds. That being said, here are a few more movies/franchises that I have yet to hear but still believe they will fit right in with the other Kingdom Hearts worlds.
The Black Cauldron
The Black Cauldron is one movie that has not gotten as much hype as other Disney movies but could still be a great addition to KH. the themes within The Black Cauldron fit perfectly with those of Kingdom Hearts: friendship, bravery, realizing ones self worth, a rag-tag-team taking down evil, the list goes on.
The group could stumble upon Taran and Gurgi looking for Hen Wen which leads them to the Horned King's fortress. There, Sora, Donald and Goofy witness the visions Hen Wen which not only involve the Black Cauldron but also their fate in taking down a new villain who is in cahoots with The Horned King. Maybe Goofy and Gurgi find this strange bond with Gurgi being so cowardly and Goofy defends him using his shield. Perhaps Taran feels the need to prove himself as a hero after Sora saves them from danger. There are plenty of ways they can blend the two groups together and maybe even tie in some Final Fantasy characters.
Emperor's New Groove
Emperor's New Groove is probably one of the more underrated Disney movies. Besides having the voices of John Goodman, Partick Warburton, David Spade, and Eartha Kitt, the movie had its clever moments, childish humor, exciting chase scenes, everything you would want in a movie.
The interaction between Sora, Donald and Goofy with Kuzco and Pacha would be an interesting one to say the least. While they would feel a moral connection with Pacha, Kuzco would be a real challenge to overcome with his brazen personality. However, it could be that the group selfless acts could help the emperor realize that he needs to make some life choices. Also, Yzma and Kronk (being a weird incompetent evil duo) could be taken advantage of much like how Pete is used by Maleficent.
Sword in the Stone
Sword in the Stone is a classic Disney movie, dating all ht way back to 1963. For those who are unfamiliar with this movie, the story follows a young King Arthur who is a squire to a local knight. During a hunting mishap, Arthur comes across the wise wizard, Merlin, who then decides to take Arthur under his wing after predicting the potential within Arthur as being more of a squire.
Although Sword in the Stone does not have a main villain in particular, it could be nice to have this movie become a world in Kingdom Hearts 3 much like how Winnie the Pooh was a world in Kingdom Hearts 2. The movie opens with the narrator reading/singing from a story book which is the perfect set up to do the same thing within the game. Also, the fact that Merlin has already cemented himself within the franchise, he could be the one to find the book, recruit Sora and company to restore the chapters within the book, and act as the narrator of his own world.
This one is obviously not Disney affiliated, but I still feel like it's worthy to be in this list. Full Metal Alchemist is an anime/manga series originally published by Square Enix (the other half of the Kingdom Hearts production coin). We've already seen some Final Fantasy and The World Ends With You characters make their way into KH: Cloud, Sephiroth, Auron, Rhyme, Beat, Neku.... just to name a few. So who is to say that they couldn't utilize more out of the Square Enix vault and make an entire world out of it?
Fullmetal Alchemist is definitely a lot darker than the normal Kingdom Hearts vibe, but I still see massive potential with a crossover. Utilizing Edward Elric as a member of the party, combining his transmutations with the spells/summons, changing the story line slightly to involve being tied in with the Organization XIII and their search for a body for Al; there's a lot they can do with this anime.
Despite having numerous games in the KH franchise, we still have yet to see a world from the Pixar universe. And although we have learned that Kingdom Hearts 3 already has a superhero squad, I still think The Incredibles would be the best choice to incorporate into Sora's journey.
The Incredibles was the perfect combination of action, adventure, family values and comedic jokes about superhero/super villain stereotypes. To combine that with the wonderful mash up that is Kingdom Hearts seems like a no-brainer. Fighting side by side with Incredibles family and Frozone against Syndrome and the Omnidroid would be an awesome boss fight. Not just that, but the secondary plot to this world could even pit Sora and the gang against the Incredibles and bring them back to the light.
This one would be an interesting new world for KH for the sake that Maleficent has been one of the main villains in previous games. But, seeing as the movie gives us more of the backstory and retells the tale with her being a protagonist, there could be something there to work with.
This world would almost be a flashback world, bringing the group back even before the story line of Birth By Sleep. Sora and friends could follow her through the movie's plot: watching her keep an eye out for Aurora, befriending her and then seeing that she is not as evil as they thought. Then they could team up as they enter the castle to save Aurora from the curse Maleficent has put upon her. In the end, with the involvement of The New Organization or a new evil force, Maleficent sacrifices her wings again to save Aurora, which in turn leads her to become the evil version the group has encountered previously. This one is a bit of stretch but with the innovative way the producers redeveloped the world of Maleficent, it would be interesting to have full range of exploration that the game.
There you have it: some forgotten gems, classic films and some cool new comers that would be great levels in Kingdom Hearts. I can't wait to see the full list of new worlds that will be brought into the game. More so, I can't wait to PLAY this game! This franchise has never disappointed and I know that the newest game will be even better.
Do you think there are any other worlds that should be in Kingdom Hearts 3? Leave it in the comments!
