Earlier today, a brief few seconds of new footage from the upcoming Star Wars movie, [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158), was released via the Official Star Wars Instagram account. It opened with footage previously seen exclusively in the South Korean trailer for the film and lasted for just a couple of seconds, but what it lacked in quantity it certainly made up for in quality.

Oh boy. That was intense.

With a brand new rendition of the Imperial March and an even more sinister voiceover from Supreme Leader Snoke, this short teaser was everything we needed to tide us over until Force Friday hits us in September next week.

Firstly, let's address the most interesting part of the footage: Finn wielding a very familiar looking lightsaber. While the poster released at D23 earlier this month also showed Anakin and Luke's lightsaber in the hands of our new hero, this is the first time we've seen it on screen and in action. It's also the first time we've seen the new lightsaber effects being used for the movie aside from Kylo Ren's distorted crossguard blade.

Never gets old.
Never gets old.

Seeing Finn square off against Ren in the forest raises several questions. Is Finn a force user? Is he related to a character we're already familiar with? Does he stand a chance?

Luckily for him, it seems he's not going to be fighting this battle alone as we also get a glimpse of Daisy Ridley's Rey, stood with BB-8 in a forest we can only assume is the same one. The shot gives a better look at the droid and shows off the practical effects JJ Abrams is so proud of. Rey also looks considerably troubled, implying that the pair will also have their own battles to face.

Other than that, there isn't much to cover from this short clip, but I'm sure you'll all agree that it definitely makes up for the lack of any footage at D23.
