James Bond is an iconic character worldwide that has captured our attention for 53 years and counting! Here are some of the quite surprising actors who almost took the role!
Quite a surprising choice that Bond could've been played by an American action hero. Eastwood turned down the role saying:
"I was offered pretty good money to do James Bond if I would take on the role. But to me, well, that was somebody else’s gig. That’s Sean’s deal. It didn’t feel right for me to be doing it."
George Lazenby went on to do a film after Sean Connery left the role.
Dick Van Dyke
An American actor well known for comedy, it was surprising Van Dyke was even considered for the role. Van Dyke had come in for an audition, but was turned down because he had a terrible British accent.
Paul McGann was considered the second choice for James Bond when 1995's Goldeneye was still in the casting process. Though Pierce Brosnan was MGM's first choice for Bond, McGann would have gotten the role if Brosnan wouldn't have taken it or was unavailable.
While planning 2006's Casino Royale Hugh Jackman was considered for the role of Bond, but the role ultimately went to Daniel Craig. Jackman was quoted by Hollywood Reporter stating:
"I thought it would box me in too much."
While I'd love to see Hugh play Bond, he's up there in the age numbers. But, who knows? We might get a new Bond soon.
Sir Michael Caine
Sir Michael Caine was approached to play Bond after Sean Connery left the role, but he refused to play Bond as he feared he would have been typecast in spy movies. Caine had played a spy named Harry Palmer in three spy films previously.
While none of these fine actors have played James Bond, we can still imagine and enjoy the fact they were considered for the role. Do you like the actors considered for the role?
