According to Variety, Marvel is currently courting former Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen to play one of the Sorcerer Supreme’s big bads! Marvel had previously been in discussions with Mikkelsen about playing Malekith in [Thor: The Dark World](tag:206462), that is until Mads accepted the role of Hannibal Lecter in the short lived NBC show about the titular character.

The cast of Doctor Strange is starting to round out now as filming is due to begin later this year with a release date of November 4, 2016. So far, Bendict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejifor as Baron Mordo are confirmed, with Rachel McAdams and now Mikkelsen rumored to be cast as well. The significant parts yet to be cast are those of Clea (Strange’s love/pupil), Wong (His assistant), Topaz (Another sorcerer ally), Kaluu (A mentor), Agamotto (A powerful sorcerer), Dormammu (One of his main villains), and Mephisto (Marvel’s version of the Devil).

Now Variety states that Mikkelsen is being courted for the role of a bad guy so that leaves Dormammu (with the flaming head) and Mephisto as the options. Dormammu would be pretty much relegated to just Marvel’s mystical movies (Doctor Strange and possibly a Brother Voodoo film), whereas Mephisto could be used all over the MCU. Mephisto even served as a friend and advisor to Thanos for a time and routinely menaced Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Thor, and even Spider-Man. Now, Mads would be fantastic in either role but Mephisto would allow him to be of greater significance to the MCU.

The last part that’s possible as a Doc Strange villain is Nightmare. Like Mephisto, Nightmare has plagued many Marvel heroes, yet he keeps coming back to Doc Strange. This is a dark horse part in our eyes since Nightmare is not as major a villain as the others mentioned above, however, Mads could still knock it out of the park.

So what do you think about who Mads Mikkelsen should play in the Doctor Strange film? Let us know is the comments!
