During the VMAs last night, MTV released the first trailer for their fantasy show The Shannara Chronicles. Up until this point, all we had seen was a first look at the new world we would be delving into, but now we have an official trailer:
Based on Terry Brooks' Shannara series of novels, the series stars Poppy Drayton, Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett and John Rhys-Davies. Check out the first official trailer below:
Now, let's break this down for a second because there's a lot to take in from a video just one minute.
Austin Butler will be playing the role of Wil Ohmsford. Although he is only one-eighth Elf in the series, his Elven features are prominent enough for him to oftentimes be mistaken for a full elf.
Magic, elves, quests? Sign me up!
Poppy Drayton is taking on the role of Amberle Elessedil, a full Elf who goes on a quest along with Wil.
The Ellcrys tree
It looks like this is the Ellcrys tree starting to die, which launches Wil and Amberle on their adventure.
The Sword of Shannara?
The legendary Sword of Shannara has the power to reveal the ultimate truth about anything.
Since I haven't read the novels (please feel free to educate me on anything I got wrong in this post, Moviepilot commenters), I'm not very familiar with the the world of the Shannara Chronicles. But I can already tell that these settings and production values are pretty awesome, especially for MTV.
This show looks totally insane! I don't know about you guys, but it looks incredible so far. I hope it can stand up to all of the hype.
According to the YouTube page, here's what fans can expect to see from The Shannara Chronicles:
Set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization, the story follows an Elven Princess, Amberle, a half-human half-elf, Wil, and a human, Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop a Demon army from destroying the Four Lands.
The Shannara Chronicles will air on MTV starting January 2016.
