According to the Mail on Sunday Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter have named their two-month-old son Christopher Carlton Cumberbatch.
The pair reportedly chose 'Carlton' as a middle name because it is a family name which both the actor, and his father Timothy share. Meanwhile 'Christopher' was the name of a character portrayed by Cumberbatch in the BBC TV adaption of Parade's End, written by Sir Tom Stoppard.
Baby Cumberbatch was born on June 1st with a spokesperson for the "delighted" couple speaking on their behalf at the time:
"Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son. We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during these next few precious weeks."
The announcement of the baby's name comes after the actor was named a CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to the performing arts and charity.
In addition to his new role as a father, Benedict Cumberbatch is also currently starring in Hamlet at London's Barbican Theatre until October 31st.
