Terry Brooks is a best selling author of epic fantasy. I'll admit, I've never read any of his stuff, but my dad is a huge fan. So when I saw that they were coming out with a television series centered around one of his books, I was intrigued.

Epic Fantasy junky here clicked on the trailer and my mind was blown.

If you know me you also know that I'm really picky when it comes to fantasy on the screen. I've got this whole thing about making it look authentic versus a cheesy fantasy movie.

It's all about colors colors colors.

But that's an article about cinematography and a rant about cheese in fantasy.

I was not disappointed however when I saw this trailer...

I'll admit, I don't know what Shannara is, I don't know what kind of races I'm to be looking out for (like...what is this crazy coolness that looks like a painting from one of my fave artists on deviantart?) ...

And I really don't know anything about a storyline save that it's about three teens who are going on an epic quest. Something with demons, elves, and this guy...

Another thing that has me totally vamped for this show (aside from the authentic looking color palette that makes it more realistic than say Narnia or Eragon), is this killer makeup. This business is legit! I want to cast that intense evil thing in one of my own fantasy books.

But it seems Brooks got to him first *eye roll*.

Another aspect I'm excited for is Gimli! I mean, *cough*, John Rhyes-Davies, a proven fantasy actor who has been cast to play this guy...

Wait...wait...WAIT! Are those elf ears?! Yes. Yes they are.

It seems Gimli's sail to the Grey Havens with Legolas has incurred some unexpected changes.

No, I will not get over this. Mr. Davies will always be Gimli in the white shores of my heart just like David Tennant will forever be The Doctor. That doesn't mean I don't love seeing this actor play a totally different role. It's called acting!

You can see Davies (along with several other people involved with the project) talk a little bit about this upcoming adventure in the clip below along with other clips from the series.
