Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme

Doctor Strange (Stephen Strange) is a man of great power. He has held the title of Sorcerer Supreme multiple times (currently holds this title) and is one of the most powerful sorcerers in existence. He is also the primary protector of Earth from other forces of Magic. Strange, before obtaining his powers, was a renowned neurosurgeon who was in a life-altering car accident. As a result of this accident, he lost control of his hands and suffered severe tremors. Due to these tremors, he was unable to resume his career as a surgeon. After several failed attempts at finding a cure, he spiraled into a deep depression. With nowhere left to turn, and after hearing rumors of the "Ancient One," he traveled to Tibet as a last resort to find a cure. It is here, where Strange first learned about the mystical arts and would later obtain his powers that would eventually heal his hands. His powers include, but are not limited to: energy projection and manipulation, matter transformation, telekenesis, teleportation, illusion-casting, mesmerism, thought projection, astral projection, dimensional travel, time travel and mental possession.

What does this mean for the MCU?

Now that we have an idea of how powerful of an individual Doctor Strange is, we could discuss countless ways he could effect the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To list a few, he will probably play an important role in fighting Thanos in the Infinity Wars, he is a hero, but could pose major threats to other heroes (especially The Hulk, who is vulnerable to magic), and finally, he is capable of opening portals to other dimensions.

The last thing I listed is very important. Doctor Strange is capable of opening portals to other dimensions. Some might be wondering, "so what? Yeah he's powerful but who cares?"

Here are three reasons you should care.

The first, and probably most important thing this means for the MCU, is the fact that this would be the perfect way to establish a connection between the different universes of the MCU, and the FOX (Xmen, Deadpool, Fantastic 4)! Obviously, as Marvel fans, we would want nothing more than for FOX and Marvel to work out their differences and bring all of their characters together. That being said, they both have very well-established universes so it may be hard to just suddenly combine the two. Doctor Strange's powers would act as the perfect catalyst to bring the two different universes together.

Second, he could bring back heroes that we have lost. When I say this, I mean he could bring back Quicksilver. Personally, I would have liked to see more from this character, and while it would make his death a lot less meaningful, Strange would be capable of bringing back a version of Quicksilver from an alternate dimension.

Finally, his powers could introduce other worlds and characters in the MCU. Obviously after Infinity Wars (slated for 2018-2019) Marvel is going to have to do something fairly big to continue their success. What better way than to use the mystical powers of Doctor Strange to open up portals to a whole different world? This could introduce all new characters and they could practically start from scratch. They could also follow stories from the comics like the Secret Wars story arc using this tactic.

Doctor Strange's powers are almost limitless and could have a major effect on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While these are just my personal theories, the capabilities of the Sorcerer Supreme are proof enough that they may hold some legitimacy. What do you all think? Feel free to share your own theories and ideas below!

Doctor Strange is slated to hit theaters in November of 2016. Strange will likely make an appearance (probably pre-magic powers) in Civil War (2016).
