Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 promises to be the best Call of Duty game yet! This latest edition leads us through the third chapter of the Black Ops series.
In just 8 weeks' time will witness the birth of the third generation in Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3. With each and every Black Ops release, Treyarch aim to revolutionise the series with their newest edition of the best selling shooter and Black Ops 3 is pure dynamite.
But Will Quickscoping Feature in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3?
Monday brought with it not only the birth of a new week but the emotional end to the Black Ops 3 beta. As you can expect the internet has been awash with Black Ops 3 gameplay videos but this time around there is a distinct lack of quickscoping videos out there.
(Gasp) Does this mean that quickscoping doesn't exist in Black Ops 3?
No way! It certainly is a little harder but it sure is possible. Quickscoping is without a doubt the most effective way of putting an opponent down in Call of Duty and rest assured, it is still very much doable in Black Ops 3.
The set up in Black Ops 3 is very similar to that of Black Ops 2 in regard to sniping. The optical render is almost identical although rather than 'Dual Render' this is now known as 'Overlay'.
Before We Get Started.. What Is Quickscoping?
If you are unsure of what Quickscoping is, do not fear - Gamertag Gaming are here to educate you on everything QS!
In essence, Quickscoping is the act of zooming in or "aiming down the sights" with a sniper rifle and firing almost immediately after.
The term became really famous/infamous with the Call of Duty series, but the action itself goes way back to early FPS like Counter Strike.
Basically, sniper rifles deal out 100% damage allowing for one shot kills, but are terribly inaccurate unless scoped (hip fire). To counter this, as soon as you hit the "aim" button the accuracy will immediately configure to 'perfect' - this negates the need to look down your scope for hours on end (known as "hardscoping").
This technique fast became recognised as the most effective way of taking down an enemy, do the math, why use twenty when one will do?
How To Quickscope in Black Ops 3
This being said, it is not as easy as it sounds. It is certainly a very tricky business. But I will run you through the basic process and share some COD wisdom with you. I will lay it out in a few easy steps.
Practice Your Timing.
Quick scoping is based entirely on timing and muscle memory. Practice raising your scope and learn how long it takes for the scope to become "active". Raise and lower your scope over and over to get the timing down.
You will notice in Black Ops that the gun will move out to the right just before it comes up. (see video below). This is done in an attempt to slow the rifle down a fraction of a second as it rises to meet the eye. A clever implementation by the developers to keep the quickscoping under control.
Create Your Quickscope Loadout.
In order to successfully quickscope, you will need some specific attachments and perks before you start playing. As the game has not been released yet and we had limited access via the beta, we are unsure of all the perks that will be available.
However, perks like Fast Hands and Focus with weapon attachments like Ballistic Ecu will all help get that gun up quicker whilst increasing the hip fire accuracy. More to come upon release.
Play Against Bots.
If, like me, you care about your K/D ratio then I highly recommend utilising the Combat Training option. Set them to 'easy' so that they don't kill you immediately. This will give you a lot of moving targets to practice your quick scoping skills on.
Don't Move While Shooting.
Even though you should technically be constantly moving between shots, be sure to stop for that split second you take the shot. In Call of Duty movement penalises accuracy, so to give you the optimal chances of a hit, it's best to stop. As soon as you take the shot, get moving again.
Practice Makes Perfect.
Quickscoping is a skill that is all feel and muscle memory. You genuinely will not get it right away, but don't get discouraged. Keep at it, and you'll be dancing around the room and getting hate mail in no time!
I had heaps of fun with the sniper rifle in Black Ops 3 - due to the limited time we had in the beta I focused my efforts on the very first sniper rifle available to you, known as the Locus. It is a perfect quickscoping weapon with a single shot bolt action.
From what I can gather thus far this rifle can be equipped with both standard and variable zoom with the option to fit a thermal or ACOG scope. When quickscoping in Black Ops I recommend that you stick to the standard scope.
Some people like to use the thermal as it makes it easier to identify the target once scoped, but in all honesty when quickscoping properly you don't have time to see down the scope anyway.
Black Ops 3 brought all the fun I had in Black Ops 2 flooding back to me - the sniping does feel similar and within a day or two you will feel right at home running, gunning and taking names.
This is what I came up with on the first day of the Beta. Unfortunately I was unable to capture more quickscoping as I had many Black Ops 3 tasks to complete and recorded so do forgive the brevity. Enjoy.
As you can see quickscoping is very much alive and well in Black Ops 3!
But, is that a good thing or a bad thing in your opinion? Comment below.
There will be a follow up article to this coming soon, complete with assault class weapon gameplay and a compilation of every single scorestreak available in the game.
That's right guys, I played and played until I bagged them all. They look great! Oh, and guess what? Nuketown is back! Follow me to ensure you don't miss the details.
