(Thar be SPOILERS below if you don't know the story of Misty Knight.)

With the success of Marvel and Netflix's collaboration on the Daredevil series, which debuted in April of this year, we're all waiting with bated breath for the next additions to the superhero series list. This list includes solo series for Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, eventually to culminate in a Defenders series.

The most recent casting news comes in regard to the Luke Cage live-action show, expected to air at some point next year. The new addition to the cast is Simone Missick, who will play the key role of Misty Knight in the upcoming Marvel/Netflix series.

In the comics, Mercedes "Misty" Knight started out as a police officer in New York City. Always vehemently on the side of justice, her work eventually pays off and she becomes a decorated officer. However, once her right arm becomes horribly injured in a bomb accident, she is given a bionic arm by none other than Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man, who clearly understood her potential. Unfortunately, her employers at the police department were much less sympathetic and she decided to resign rather than accept the desk job they'd offered her. Dipping her toes into private investigation for a little while, she eventually joins Heroes for Hire, a group consisting of Luke Cage, Power Man and Iron Fist (who later becomes her love interest).

According to ComicBook, Misty's role on the show will be as "a police detective that reluctantly teams-up with Luke Cage."

As for Simone Missick herself, she has so far been in lesser-known TV series and films, but it looks like Luke Cage could be her break out role, if she gives the great performance the producers undoubtedly believe she is capable of.

I'm stoked for all of these Marvel Netflix series coming out, and I can't wait to see how they develop the individual stories and bring them together!

Luke Cage stars Mike Colter, Alfre Woodard and Theo Rossi and will premiere next year.
