Ever since Idris Elba's name has been thrown about in the search for the next James Bond following 007 Daniel Craig's departure, everyone has had something to say.
Most controversially however, it seems that Anthony Horowitz, the author of the new James Bond novel himself, landed himself in the dirt with some comments that he made the other day.
To recap, the author admitted that he didn't think Elba was right for the role, which is all well and good, but it was the words that he used to convey the point that caused a social media shit-storm. He said:
“Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better [...] For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
Realizing that the whole world had exploded at what he had said, Horowitz quickly took to Twitter to try to rectify the situation:
Naturally, during the entire fiasco, everyone's eyes were on Elba for his reaction. And finally, on Tuesday, the actor took to Instagram to respond and what he had to say was as classy as ever:
Always Keep Smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the Street!!
BOOM! And THAT'S how you deal with an awkward situation!
