This past Saturday in an interview with the UK’s Daily Mail, new James Bond writer, Anthony Horowitz made a comment in regards to Idris Elba possibly playing bond at some point.

‘Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better. For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too “street” for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.’

Too “street”? Now Horowitz said outright in his initial statement that it wasn’t a color issue, so what could it have been? Apparently he just doesn’t believe that Elba can be “suave”, as he put it. Elba is fully capable of playing any type of role as evidenced by his turns in: Luther, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Thor, Obsessed, Rock N’ Rolla, The Office, and The Gospel. Elba is an ideal leading man and capable of playing the action hero needed for the role of Bond. Horowitz later backtracked some on his stance via his Twitter account.

Elba, though, replied in a very polite, yet cheeky way through his Instagram account.

Here’s hoping that Elba will still be in consideration for the role of James Bond.
