The Vampire Diaries star Candice Accola (Caroline) took to Instagram on August 30th to share her happy surprise of being pregnant with husband Joe King with their first child.
This, of course, is great news. However, with filming of Season 7 of The Vampire Diaries underway, this does beg the question on how this is going to be handled on the show.
When talking about her pregnancy, Candice did say that she had told the writers and show runners of her condition:
"We start the beginning of the season asking the writers a lot of questions about what's going to happen. then halfway through the season, it's completely different. ... Julie [Plec] and Caroline [Dries] are the best people to ask about [ how her pregnancy will be included in the show.] To be honest, I'm along for the ride just like the viewers are. We're going to see Caroline get her bite back. We'll see her coming in as a badass, and sometimes she might act without thinking things totally through."
When we left Stefan and Caroline in Season 6, Caroline had decided to take some time for herself away from Stefan and being with men. However, Paul Wesley doesn't think he will give her up so easily.
"It's nice he has a girl who reciprocates. Not that Elena didn't reciprocate, but I felt like Elena was constantly torn between the two brothers. It's nice to be with a woman who's not torn about being with you! She's all about [him]."
Candice agreed, adding that fans shouldn't expect it to be an easy road.
"Fans of the couple shouldn't expect this perfect romance, but what the characters feel for each other is very perfect. So, if the situations aren't perfect, the intentions are still really good, so that's what they're fighting for through the chaos and the demise of Mystic Falls."
With her being pregnant, could we possibly expect a baby Salvatore on the way? Most likely not, with vampires unable to procreate, but the mythology is always changing on the show, so who knows. Other shows have taken care to hide pregnancies when the characters aren't supposed to be pregnant, so we will have to see. Knowing the show runners, they will definitely come up with something creative.
The Vampire Diaries Season 6 is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. Season 7 begins Thursday, October 8th on The CW.
