With the failure that is Jem and the Hologram or what I call Hasbro trying to cash in on Nostalgia, I think its time to bring back another fictional music group that hasn't been seen since 2001: Josie and the Pussycats. The famous Archie comics musical group that took over the 70s as a Hanna-Barbara cartoon. The show had two cartoon series (Josie and the Pussycats and Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space), an actual album as an official group, and a film. Why not bring Josie back?

HOLD UP, Didn't the Josie Film flop?

Yes, it was a commercial and critical failure, however it was because it wasn't faithful adaptation of the comics or cartoon. It was a parody using a famous brand to discuss consumerism and subliminal messages in media, which was a big thing in the late 90s and early 2000s. The film also used stereotypes in a way that it was looking at a mirror image of ourselves. The concept was really ahead of its time and could have been a great subject in today's time since we live in a society where brand names mean status and STANS are crazier more than ever. I'm talking about you Kardashians, Record Labels, Scooter Braun, Beyhive and focus groups.

Let's get back to basics

Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame said it best "Musicians should go to a yard sale and buy an old f—ing drum set and get in their garage and just suck. And get their friends to come in and they’ll suck, too. And then they’ll f—ing start playing and they’ll have the best time they’ve ever had in their lives and then all of a sudden they’ll becoming Nirvana. The problem I have with Jem 2015 is the thought of instant fame over the internet. Yes, the internet is a wonderful way to get your music out there but there are a lot of true artists who will never be signed to major label like that because it's too flooded with new singers every day. Josie and the Pussycats needs to be a series about three friends who start a girl group who struggles to make it. There's no instant stardom, over the top outfits, pyrotechnics just three girls and the music.

What's different?

Instead of a Movie, Why not a netfix or hulu series? Netflix and Hulu allows companies to be experimental and try new things. Secondly, Josie and the Pussycats could be a Pop/R&B group think Danity Kane, 3LW, Destiny's Child.

The girls will still play instruments during the recording process of their songs and at most concerts showing their musicianship. There needs to be heavy choreography and by choreography, I mean this:

The show could retain its sitcom style of comedy featuring Alan, Alexander and Alexandra. Sebastian the cat could make a return. The mystery segment of the original animated show needs to be dropped completely as it was added due to the popularity of Scooby Doo.

THE MUSIC

Josie and the Pussycats is a music group and needs to be founded on music. The actors need to be able to sing , dance, and play an instrument. I can not stress how important it is to have actual singer/actors play musical roles. The music must be different from generic pop music. The music need to test the waters mixing different genres, sounds, and styles. There needs to be actual songwriters and producers making it like Timbaland, Missy Elliot, Sia, Linda Perry, Dawn Richard, Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam, Zedd, The stereotypes etc. The music needs to be at the forefront.

THEMES

I love the theme of the film of consumerism but with a reboot, I think themes need to be more down to earth. Body Image, Recovery, and hard work.

Do you Josie could make a comeback? Leave your thoughts in the comments
