It's one of the most consistently requested sequels ever, but it looks like Hellboy 3 may never make it to screens, with Ron Perlman claiming he's "done with the character."
In an interview with Empire Magazine's Movie Podcast, the veteran actor seemed enthusiastic about finishing what has (so far) been two thirds of an incredible trilogy, but was reluctant about donning the horns for another movie, fed up with wearing the character's elaborate make-up:
"I really feel as though I'm done with the character. I don't have a burning desire to put that sh*t on again. But Guillermo told me what the resolve of the trilogy would look like, in broad strokes, and it's such an amazingly theatrical, cinematic idea, that I found it essential that we do it."
"We were designed to be a trilogy, with a beginning, a middle and an end. We've only done two-thirds, so I feel that we're not really done until we finish it."
Wait, so is it happening or not? I thought he said he was finished with that character. Please stop teasing us!
Considering director Guillermo del Toro is ramping up work on a follow up to his giant robot smashathon, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, it seems unlikely we'll see Perlman return to the role soon. However, the actor did drop a scrumptious plot detail for the proposed finale, revealing that Hellboy and Liz Sherman have twins, but with a classic Guillermo twist:
"The two twins: one would look like the mum and one would look like the dad. And one of them was going to be completely f**king corrupt, the other one angelic. Which one was which? Only Guillermo would make the f**ked-up-looking one be the angel. So then that adds to the saga."

Perlman's non-committal comments have only confused me further, but I hope he has a change of heart regarding Hellboy's make-up commitments. Let's finish this epic saga!
