It's September 11th which is a sad day, but on this Patriot Day, you don't have to dwell on the act of brutality that occurred 14 years ago - rather, you can proudly watch one of these eight movies that any American can enjoy. Also, if you aren't American, you might learn a thing or two about the western nation if you check one of these flicks out.

So, without further ado... eight patriotic films to watch on this depressing but proud day (in no particular order).

1. Captain America: The First Avenger

Nuff said.

2. Top Gun

A classic film about some Air Force pilots protecting and serving this great country.

3. Independence Day

This is probably better for July 4, but it still works.

4. The Patriot

Mel Gibson has had a tumultuous go at it in recent years, but he's undeniably a great actor and this is a solid film.

5. Saving Private Ryan

Way too classic.

6. Rocky IV

Russia vs. USA? The Cold War getting settled in the ring? US winning? Yes, yes, and yes.

7. Team America: World Police

This one is clearly a little tongue-in-cheek, but it's awesome regardless.

8. Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a great film. A lot of historical events go down in it as well.
