Actress and activist Angelina Jolie is speaking up for those who can't speak for themselves. She is representing the fight against sexual violence in Iraq and Syria, and most recently did so via a moving speech in front of the UK's House of Lords. She recounted the harrowing experiences of women and girls she met during her travels, including very young girls who had been raped and sold.
Jolie Pitt also condemned sexual violence condoned by the Islamic State, stating that ISIS uses rape as a weapon. Here's what Jolie Pitt had to say...
“They are dictating it as policy… beyond what we have seen before. It is a very effective weapon, and they are using it as a centerpoint of their terror and their way of destroying communities and families, and attacking and dehumanizing.”
Jolie Pitt has campaigned for refugee causes for more than 10 years, and in 2012 was named a U.N. special envoy. Check out the speech in video format below to see her work and point of view.
