Back in the early 2000s, before Facebook, Twitter and Instagram ruled the social media landscape, celebrities struggled to be media savvy and terribly lacked decent photography skills.
The most notorious example of this has been Tom Hardy's old Myspace profile, which has provided us with a treasure trove of near-naked poses and hilarious statements over the last few months. Here's a wonderful example:
The page caused such a stir in fact, that the other day Tom actually directly addressed the existence of these images. And instead of being mortified that the pictures had made their rounds around the world, he embraced his hilariously awkward past, saying:
"I've got no shame about my MySpace photos, especially the one of me in my underpants, which is a glorious photo of a man in his natural habitat."
However, it must be noted that Tom isn't the only A-lister out there with an awkward social media past. Let's have a look at the gems that some other celebrities sprouted back in the day:
1. Kim Kardashian
Before she became the most notorious selfie-taker in the world, and actually released a book of selfies of herself, Kim Kardashian was known as Princess Kimberly on her pretty pink Myspace profile, which she built with the trusty help of Pimp-My-Profile.com of course. The monstrosity looked something like this:
And Ray J, the featured penis in her infamous sex tape, was in her top eight friends.
Never change, Kim, never change.
2. Taylor Swift
Oh yes, that's Taylor Swift's Myspace profile picture circa 2006. The dyed hair, the gloomy glance, the heavy eyeliner - it's all there!
It's incredible to see how much Tay Tay has changed over the years but the crux of the matter is, we can't really laugh at her old photos because in all fairness, most of us went through an emo phase too, didn't we?
3. Lana Del Rey
Back when Lana Del Rey was simply known as Lizzie Grant, as an artist, she clearly didn't understand the importance of getting a decent Myspace music profile - I mean, who does black font on a black background?
Thankfully, one thing that she did choose to share with her audience was that she was a "baby girl."
4. Harry Styles
The scruffy-haired One Directioner went for the standard four-tone inverted pop art effect for his profile picture. Classic.
5. Lena Dunham
Yep, nothing about Lena Dunham seems to have changed - she's still parading around pantless and bold as ever.
6. Selena Gomez
I guess Selena was a huge fan of Converse back in the day.
7. Katy Perry
Back then, Katy was still riding the wave of her potential Christian music career, and was keeping herself modestly covered with a top hat and what appears to be a huge pink button. Oh how things have changed!
Did you go through an awkward Myspace phase?
