After Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield both left their marks on the character of Spider-Man, the series was rebooted once again. Spidey fans went into a frenzy once the reboot was announced, each voicing their opinions of who should play the web-slinger next. As we know now, Tom Holland is set to play the role. However, one of the largest fan favorite choices to fill the role was none other than The Maze Runner's Dylan O'Brien.

Unfortunately enough, O'Brien didn't get the part, and Tom Holland looks like he's going to be an exceptional fit for Spider-Man. That being said, there is still a massive fan base that prefers O'Brien as the wall-crawler, and for several good reasons.

1.) Wow! The Resemblance Is Uncanny!

Of course looks aren't everything, but they certainly make a huge impact on characters. Think of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Their uncanny similarities to the comic version of the character really draws us in closer to the feel of the film and role.

When searching for the role of Spider-Man, we typically search for a young teenaged male with a thin but muscular frame. Well not only does Dylan O'Brien match each point on that checklist, his likeness to Peter Parker is nearly identical.

Look at the image above for instance. Look at his his hair, his jawline, his cheekbones, and even his nose. He looks just like Peter Parker in the Civil War comic series. If you thought Andrew Garfield looked a lot like Parker, than O'Brien's likeness will blow you away.

2.) He Has a Similar Personality to Peter Parker

If there is one thing that Peter Parker is known for, other than spinning webs and crawling up walls, it's his wisecracks. Parker is known for being constantly witty and sarcastic, which O'Brien can relate to. He has stated that he is actually very sarcastic in real-life, so he wouldn't even have to try very hard to embody Parker's attitude.

3.) He Is in Superhero Shape

If you want to play a superhero, you have to have muscles. Thor has muscles, Captain America has muscles, Black Widow has muscles, just about everyone has muscles. Well, not only does Spider-Man have a six-pack and killer biceps, he is also quite known for his agility.

As you can see from the image above, O'Brien is a very fit person. He certainly has the muscle strength to play a superhero, and the core strength shows that he could perform the acrobatic stunts required for Spidey. I doubt he would even need a stunt double.

4.) He's No Stranger to Franchise Life

Even the greatest actors and actresses can be intimidated by the commitment that it takes to sign on as a Marvel superhero. The sheer amount of time and effort it takes to produce an Avengers movie is astonishing, and I'm sure with a role like Spider-Man, an actor would have to sign on for a multi-picture contract.

Dylan O'Brien is no stranger when it comes to commitment in film in television. Most people know him as Thomas, the lead in The Maze Runner series, which is at least a three-picture deal. He has already finished work on the second installment in the series, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and we can only assume that he'll be back for the trilogy's finale: The Death Cure.

Before he even signed on for The Maze Runner, he acted in 81 episodes of the television series Teen Wolf, where he played Stiles Stilinski.

5.) He Has Experience with Action Scenes

In The Maze Runner, O'Brien had more than a few action scenes. He had to do a lot of running, jumping, fighting, you name it. All of that physical work would have prepared him nicely for a superhero role. With a lot of heavy action scenes in both Marvel films and The Maze Runner films, O'Brien would be able to transfer his skills easily.

6.) A Match Made in Superhero Heaven

Remember back in The Amazing Spider-Man days when Shailene Woodley was set to play Mary Jane Watson? Well, many fans did not approve of that casting decision, especially because they couldn't see Woodley as a decent love interest for Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker.

However, if O'Brien had landed the role as Spidey, Woodley's casting as MJ wouldn't receive as much negative reception. In fact, they seem like they'd make a great on-screen couple. And with Woodley voicing her opinion that she would love another crack at MJ, it could be that we missed out on a huge pairing opportunity.

7.) He Has a Nerdy Side to Him

Yes, you are seeing that right. That's Dylan O'Brien jumping into the air while knocking something away - which is Spidey 101 by the way - and he is doing so all while playing Quidditch. You know, that game from Harry Potter? If we want someone to play Spider-Man, we want it to be someone like this. A nerd through and through.

It seems that Dylan O'Brien could have made the perfect Peter Parker, perhaps even better than Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire. But, we're going to have to hope for the best with Tom Holland, who also seems like he can do the character justice.

You can catch Dylan O'Brien in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials which hits theaters September 18th!
