Rumors surfaced some time back that Daniel Bruhl would be taking on the role of [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409)'s Baron Zemo (amidst the chaos of superhero civil wars and the debut of Crossbones), but up until now, his role in the film hasn't officially been confirmed.
Now, thanks to Elizabeth Olson's latest interview with Premiere.fr, that mystery has been solved:
[Daniel] Brühl is an incredible actor and he's playing the main villain in the movie, and he's incredible! It's a movie about people as opposed to robots this time. So it's darker and it's allowed to be darker because it gets more in the mindset of humans rather than machines.
The title was shared between a father and son -- Baron Heinrich Zemo, or his son, Baron Helmut Zemo. With the movie set in modern times with little to no flashbacks that we know of so far, it's pretty easy to guess at which Zemo (the son, for clarification) Brühl will be taking on.
What is clear is that Crossbones won't be at the top of Captain America's list of worries, but he certainly will populate it in a dangerous way, and that won't make the mess any easier to clean up. Rumors have it that Crossbones will be the character that sets off "Civil War" between the Avengers, an interesting new challenge to actor Frank Grillo, whose perfect antagonism we were only given a taste of in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Captain America: Civil War premieres on May 6, 2016.
