It's a total shame how people often chose to focus on celebrities weights rather than their talents. Selena Gomez is one of many people who has had the spotlight constantly on their dress size as opposed to her career. This unwelcome attention has caused her to ride an emotional roller coaster.
It's a sad fact of life that people of all sizes (and not just celebs) are constantly given hell for a body that they themselves are already comfortable in. Thankfully, Selena is stronger than those bullies and has bounced back with a powerful interview. The 23-year-old actress/singer also stripped off for the cover which will adorn her next album Revival. Raising the biggest middle finger salute ever at those body shamers.
On Friday Selena dropped by TheCruzShow at L.A.’s Power 106 and spoke about having to deal with people's focus on her weight.
You have to understand that I dealt with a lot of body shaming this year, and I’ve never experienced that before. I don’t care about that stuff, but I did start gaining weight and I didn’t really mind it. I enjoyed it.
Selena's next record Revival will face these moments head on.
I went into the label and I thought I have to say something. And I need to say what I want to say, you guys have to help me figure out how I'm gonna do that. It was really fun because I trusted people and they heard me. They were really understanding that I was fed up with everything. I was crying in the studio, then I would be happy in the studio.
Back in April you may remember that Selina was cruelly scrutinised about her weight after pictures of her in a bikini emerged online. Selina told the radio station how this time really affected her.
Man, that hurt. That was really hurtful. I’ve experienced people who have tried to control that stuff before.
This was the fuel to her fire to strip off for the empowering cover art for her next album, Revival.
The singer told the radio station the message behind this cover.
It’s not even about my weight. It’s just not that I’m not going to give a fuck what people, sorry, I’m not going to care. I’m not going to let them get to me. I can do what I want. At the end of the day, this is not even going to be a subject once the album comes out. The music is going to take over because that’s how confident I am about it.
