I have never binged a whole TV-show in one sitting. Ever. However, I do tend to only watch one show at a time whenever I have time to watch it, so usually about 4 episodes a day; during meal times and just before I go to bed. However, if it’s the holidays, or I’m working from home, I watch a hell of a lot more!
Last year I managed to binge all ten seasons of “Red Dwarf” in about two weeks. This is probably the most I’ve ever binged a TV show (apart from Doctor Who, but I’ll talk about that on Day 4)
For all those who don’t know, “Red Dwarf” is British cult sci-fi comedy that started in 1988. The show starts with a mining ship in the 22nd Century called, you guessed it, “Red Dwarf” that gets flooded with radiation and takes three million years to clear. The only survivors, due to suspended animation, are the idiot, low ranking, engineer, Dave Lister and the highly evolved decedent of his cat… named ‘Cat’. Their only company on this 6 mile long mining ship are the ship’s computer, Holly, and Arnold Rimmer, a hard-light hologram of a dead ship mate. In the second season they encounter the mechanoid, Kryten, who then joins them on their mission: return to Earth.
Although “Red Dwarf” is a comedy, it does create a fantastic, well established, sci-fi universe with great depth and strong continuity. And as well as all this, the show is primarily character driven rather than plot driven. The characters are really fleshed out, you really get to know them, care for them and invest in them.
There’s nothing much I can say about this show, except that I love it so much! And if you haven’t seen it already then you have to! Season eleven comes out some point next year!
Here’s my favourite moment from the entire show! This will give you a little taste of “Red Dwarf”’s pure awesomeness!
