Since the release of the first season of the fantasy HBO series Game of Thrones, the show has been synonymous with violence and sex.

And naturally, one its most highly prized actresses, Emilia Clarke, is no stranger to disrobing for the odd scene here and there in her role of Daenerys Targaryen on the show.

Often appearing topless in a number of sex scenes (sometimes incredibly violent!), one of her most iconic moments has actually seen the actress almost completely in the nude, rising from a fire with her beloved dragons, as seen here:

Yet, whilst some actors and actresses are comfortable with stripping off for the whole world to see, Clarke is not one of them. And despite starring in numerous sex scenes herself, she's not all that supportive of explicitly sexual moments being so prevalent on the big screen.

Speaking at a recent event, she expressed her views on sex scenes in the show, calling for a more "subtle" approach in television:

I'm British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway — I can't stand it... I don't want to have sex thrown in my face and I've always thought the suggestion is so much more titillating than the act itself.

She added:

Most sex scenes you see in films or on TV are gratuitous and they're usually just to attract an audience. On screen, the subtler the better.

Obviously, this is the antithesis of the route taken by Game of Thrones, which revels in graphic sexual themes and the often misogynistic treatment of its female characters.

"I wanted to be known for my acting, not my breasts"

Regardless, Emilia has explicitly said that enough is enough and that she would rather be known for her acting talent, rather than her naked body. Reportedly, the starlet told the Game of Thrones executives two years ago that she didn't want to take off her clothes in front of the camera anymore.

So if you were thinking that her recent hiatus from nudity in the latest seasons was just a phase, think again. Going by Emilia's words, I doubt we will be seeing the Mother of Dragons fully exposed in the nude again any time soon...
