Fox has had an interesting few years. Major successes such as X-Men: First Class and [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](tag:203942) have led the way for Fox's cinematic universe, or FCU if you will, and mild disappointment The Fantastic Four. As they expand their universe, two new players are coming to the big screen relatively soon in Deadpool and Gambit respectively. Both Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum are looking to excel in those roles and there has been talks of a possible X-Men film crossover for quite some time. [X-Men: Apocalypse](tag:1194267) producer Simon Kinberg basically confirmed that the idea is in the works as he spoke to MTV News:
"The idea is that we’ve sort of reset the timeline after Days Of Future Past in some ways, and if not erased, certainly allowed for change from ’X1,’ ’2,’ ’3,’ everything from ’Days of Future Past’ forward, 1973, everything we set now becomes canon," he explained. "So the Gambit movie, the Deadpool movie, will exist in a world that acknowledges whatever happened in Days Of Future Past and moving forward. Doesn’t mean they’ll always interact with those characters, obviously, it’s not like every movie has all the characters, but they all have to exist within the same rules."
So the entire Fox universe is being altered by the events of Days of Future Past. This could also explain the reasoning behind why Ryan Reynolds is not Deadpool at the start of his standalone film as he was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
The entire universe changed due to Days of Future Past
The idea that X-Men: Days of Future Past's events also impacted both Deadpool and Gambit makes perfect sense. Gambit is technically an X-Men even though he is a bit of an anti-hero, and the same could be said about Deadpool. It will be interesting to see how they play out this idea as Deadpool and Gambit are released, it could make for some awesome storylines!
This is going to be awesome!
Whatever Fox has in store for us, I'm sure that it will be amazing! We've already seen Deadpool in an X-Men film before and we have seen a different version of Gambit as well, so hopefully everything shakes up well. It is going to be a tough task, but Simon Kinberg seems to have a plan in store:
"I have it on my computer, and I have it sort of tattooed on my brain now too," Kinberg added, when asked how he kept track of all these character plans. "Nothing external, so that if I get knocked over the head, no one can read it. It’s literally behind my eyelids. But yeah, we have a clear sense of the directions we want to take them in and in my my mind at least, how we could start to cross-pollinate sort of with those characters that have their standalone movies."
Simon Kinberg definitely has the FCU heading in the right direction and I'm confident it will be incredible! Hopefully the suit isn't green! (Badum tsss)
