Greetings faithful readers! Who & Ted here with the Week 2 edition of Friends in Square Places 2015 FanDuel BEAT DOWN
Week 1 came and went and we were sitting pretty in first place throughout Sunday, but a roster mistake with WR DeSean Jackson who became inactive just before game time gave us a big fat 0 allowing for a free fall through the evening games and into Monday Night. We turned our backs for a moment to watch our enemies burn and allowed "kingslayer88" to stab us in the back through the heart with a 166.14 rating and paperboy Sam Bradford at QB. A proper come from behind win and a proper BEAT DOWN to start off the 2015 NFL season.
As far as our picks go, WE GOT WAXED. OBLITERATED. DESTROYED. With an opening of 5-11 we are gonna have to make up some major ground. Some might be even inclined to offer sound advice in saying I should prolly just give up, lay down our arms, bring up the white flags! But, to bleep with all of you! We are just warming up here so give me some room, and give me some space!
All of that is in the pass and here in reality we deal with the now! ON TO WEEK 2!
To make things a bit easier and organized I'm tying in my ESPN Pig Skin Pick'em Entry and using the spreads they have.
BEAT DOWN OF THE WEEK
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1) at New Orleans Saints (0-1) -9.5
Being a Florida native, I was shocked to see Winston get absolutely blown out by Mariota and the Tennessee Titans. I expected Tampa to come out a little harder and give him more support but the Titans proved to be a the perfect fit for the former Duck and Lovie Smith continues to squirm as his seat gets hotter. Wintson has the talent and the football knowledge so I'm not worried for him, but if the team can't give him help he isn't gonna succeed. It seems obvious that he is going to have a "Welcome to the NFL" kind of year.
Regardless of the deficiencies, on the other side is still a Rob Ryan coached defense. And he may look like Rex but he doesn't coach like him. Rob seems to be the negative aspect of the Ryan Ying-Yang so there will be opportunities. But in New Orleans the crowd can always elevate the play. It's the home opener and with memories of Katrina still looming they are going to be hyped for the season. If the game gets away from Jameis it could be another long day.
Denver Broncos (1-0) at Kansas City Chiefs (1-0) -2.5
What should be a game of the week has huge BEAT DOWN potential as the NFL continues to waste match ups on Thursday Night Football. Players hate playing on Thursday because their bodies haven't recovered and fans would be willing to sacrifice the extra day of football to elevate the level of play on Sundays.
Media pundits have already claimed that Manning is out of moves in the game against Football Death, but I think he's got a couple more games in him. Just not this one. KC was 6-2 against the spread at home in 2014 but Manning is 14-1 in his career against KC. But Manning had better teams back then and KC was even worse. Moves have been made and while Manning still adjusts to new offense KC will be fired up to make a statement especially after they themselves fell victim to Oakland last year on a Thursday night. A loss that triggered a losing streak that knocked them out of the playoff race.
RIVALS THIS WEEK
New England Patriots (1-0) at Buffalo Bills +.5
This is exactly the kind of game Rex Ryan was made for. Huge rivalry game in a refreshed environment with the team, fans, and media on his side. Against his life long adversary in Bellichick and Brady coming off a Super Bowl win embroiled in controversy. I'm sure you can imagine Ryan is salivating over the chance at being the first to must a mark in the Patriots loss column. And that's what he lives for don't forget. Yes we all know Rex wants a championship and a ring and blah blah so does every body. But from what I learned from him is that even if he had a down season he could always point to a win against the Pats and nod his head.
It's early and even though Brady has this renewed intensity, the media fire has calmed down now that GateGate is over. The game will be hard fought but Rex will find a way to take away Gronk and then get to Brady. What used to kill the Jets is that they never has a complimentary passing game to help out the run. So when you shut down the run eventually the defense would tire out from so many three and outs. It seems now Ryan has found a potent offense to go along with his defense. If it were later in the year I would probably be inclined to take the Patriots but early in the season they are always vulnerable.
Miami Dolphins (1-0) at Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) +6.5
Let's be clear, the Dolphins better win, and they better cover.
JETS THIS WEEK
New York Jets (1-0) at Indianapolis Colts (0-1) -6.5
The Jets opened the season with a strong performance to the surprise of many. But a seasoned Jets fan knows to proceed with caution. They face their first big test against an Indy team still reeling from an opening day lost to the Bills. With TY Hilton questionable could the Jets ride their momentum into Week 2 and steal a win like they stole Super Bowl III?? I think so. The Jets have the defense to stop Andrew Luck in his tracks and enough offensive weapons to stay in the game. I like Todd Bowles quiet demeanor who is such a difference from Ryan pumping up the Hype machine only to have it pop before it even gets anywhere.
THE REST OF THE FIELD
San Diego Chargers (1-0) at Cincinnati Bengals (1-0) -3.5
Arizona Cardinals (1-0) at Chicago Bears (0-1) +2.5
Tennessee Titans (1-0) at Cleveland Browns (0-1) +1.5
Atlanta Falcons (1-0) at New York Giants (0-1) -2.5
St. Louis Rams (1-0) at Washington Redskins (0-1) +3.5
Houston Texans (0-1) at Carolina Panthers (1-0) -3.5
Detroit Lions (0-1) at Minnesota Vikings (0-1) -2.5
San Francisco 49ers (1-0) at Pittsburgh Steelers (0-1) -6.5 -Pittsburgh to win but SF against the spread
Baltimore Ravens (0-1) at Oakland Raiders (0-1) +6.5
Dallas Cowboys (1-0) at Philadelphia Eagles (0-1) -4.5
