Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reportedly had a consultation with a transgender expert, to discuss the possibility that their daughter, Shiloh may be transgender.
Though Shiloh is only nine years old, she has chosen to identify as a boy for most of her life. Back in 2010, Angelina Jolie was interviewed by Vanity Fair, and had this to say about her eldest daughter, and her choice of gender identification:
She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.
This came after comments from Brad Pitt in 2008, who told Oprah:
She only wants to be called John. John or Peter. So it's a Peter Pan thing. So we've got to call her John. 'Shi, do you want ...' - 'John. I'm John.' And then I'll say, 'John, would you like some orange juice?' And she goes, 'No!'
Now, several years after the couple made these comments, it appears as though Shiloh still very much identifies as a 'John' more than a 'Shiloh.' In December, 2014 she even wore a suit and tie to match her brothers at the red carpet premiere of her mother's film Unbroken.
According to Radar Online, the A-list parenting duo sought out the expert in an attempt to find out how to help Shiloh, whom they have been trying to shield "from being bullied by her peers and outsiders." On top of this, the source reveals that instead of trying to change their daughter's mind or ignore her choices, "they have also been gently setting the tone for how their five other children interact with Shiloh.”
The source went on to say that Brad and Angelina were recommended to continue allowing Shiloh to dress however she wanted. And despite Brad Pitt's alleged concerns that having older brothers had influenced Shiloh's choice to be called John, and dress like a boy, this was quickly dismissed by the expert. The Jolie-Pitts were reassured that "It’s just the way Shiloh is, and there is nothing that they did wrong as parents."
Luckily for nine-year-old Jolie Pitt, her parents are more concerned with their child growing up in the most supportive environment possible, with Radar Online reporting that both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are very accepting and wholly supportive of Shiloh's choices.
Despite Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt having yet to confirm their consultation with the expert, they are still being praised by many for their open and caring attitude to parenting Shiloh.
