Get ready for another epic success story from the minds behind The Maze Runner! The franchise may test the emotional limits of its characters, but in reality, it's been an indisputable hit among new audiences and book readers alike. The adapted story gets a continuation this coming weekend, and early figures are beyond promising!

[Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials](tag:1142567) is likely to be another successful installment for 20th Century Fox, and there's no doubt why!

The first Maze Runner was a rousing commercial success

The original film raked in $32.5 million from its theatrical debut, winning the weekend and scoring a definite continuation of the franchise. With at least two more movies to follow the first, the story's start created a great foundation to build an immersive and thrilling world.

And now the sequel is shaping up to do even better

According to Variety, the highly anticipated Scorch Trials will bring the Gladers back with a vengeance. Current tracking numbers report that it will most likely dominate the weekend with $35 million, which shows a respectable increase over its earlier films.

With many reviews claiming that the sequel is even better than the first film, some projections speculate that Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials could make even more than this early estimate. Either way, it's looking like a major win for this dystopian future.

If this happens, Dylan O'Brien can safely say he beat out Johnny Depp

The other big movie opening this weekend is the gangster biopic Black Mass starring a nearly unrecognizable Johnny Depp as real-life crime boss White Bulger.

The film has strong reviews, mostly due to Depp's transformative performance, and will likely open strong with close to $22 million. But that shouldn't be enough to upset O'Brien and his group of antiauthoritarian heroes.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials blazes through theaters tomorrow, September 18th!
