The reaction to Gal Gadot's initial casting as Wonder Woman erupted in a flurry of particularly ugly internet arguments, but these days, it seems as though everyone has pulled back and is nervously awaiting the reveal of the iconic heroine on the big screen.
Yet, unbeknownst to the fandom until today, the actress was originally asked to play a completely different role for the original Man of Steel film.
In an interview with Israeli site Xnet, Gadot discussed the role she turned down, which -- in turn -- benefitted us all with one of the great performances in Man of Steel:
When I was a month pregnant with (my daughter) Alma, I got an offer to be the evil Superman character. If I wasn’t pregnant I’d take the job, and there’s no way they would take me now to be Wonder Woman.
Gadot is most likely referring to Antje Traue's Faora, a fierce warrior hell-bent on taking down our hero. Traue's Faora wasn't the most iconic of villainous women, but her grit certainly helped when it came to giving a memorable performance.
Gadot debuts as Wonder Woman in [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870) on March 25th, 2016.
