There's no doubt that the next year will be an incredible year for the movie industry. With monumentally hyped movies such as Batman V Superman, Captain America Civil War, X-men Apocalypse, Deadpool, Dr. Strange, and Gambit, 2016 is the year to be alive if you're a superhero fan. Yet in all this hype we might be missing one of the most unique (and strangest) movies of the year.
Iron Sky: The Coming Race
This sequel to 2012's Iron Sky, features one of the zaniest movie premises of all time (an even zanier premise than its predecessor, we'll get to that in a moment). Conspiracy theorists all over the world should be excited to see some of the most believed in theories being featured on the big screen. Some theories set to be shown in the movie include the Illuminati, Lizard people in control of the world, Hitler is still alive, dinosaurs live in the middle of the earth, and more! Based on the trailer we know that Sarah Palin has been elected the President of the United States, but is secretly a reptilian and part of a secret organization ruling the world. Hitler and his Nazis have teamed up with the dinosaurs (both have been hiding in the center of the world) and with President Palin's help are set to make a comeback and become the world's leading race.
Why it has potential
The premise alone is unique enough to promise a decent outcome at the box office. Even the CGI doesn't look horrendous based off of the first teaser trailer. The first movie, simply titled Iron Sky, had modest success according to some critics. One critic even claimed that it pulled inspiration from "everything from Star Wars to Dr Strangelove, [and] Raiders of the Lost Ark" (Birmingham Post). Believe it or not, Iron Sky actually has a higher rating on Rotten Tomatoes than some well known movies.
Having scored a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes, Iron Sky's impressive space battles, historical playfulness, terrific effects, and purposeful absurdity mark it as a fun movie for anyone wanting to watch something a bit different. The movie beats out some movies with big name actors as well. Get Hard featuring Will Ferrell and Kevin Heart only has a Rotten score of 29%. Funny man Kevin James' Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 scored a horrendous score of 5%. Chris Evan's Playing it Cool got a low score of 17%. The moral of the story being that although the cast isn't well known, the movie has a lot of promise to be a cult classic.
What You Should Do to Get Ready
Watch Iron Sky. Sometimes you can get away seeing a sequel without seeing the first entry into the series, but this movie that doesn't seem to be the case. Fear not, Iron Sky can be easily found on Netflix, including a director's cut with an extra 20 minutes! Although the movie has a strange premise, Nazi's living on the moon in hopes of taking over the world, it proves to be a fun ride the whole time though. What are you waiting for? Go check it out and be ready for Iron Sky the Coming Race coming to a theater near you in 2016.
