I love books but there's only one thing I love more than books - watching movies. So when a book gets a movie adaption you better believe I'm waiting at the edge of my seat for it to hit theaters. While waiting for my some of favorite books to get picked up for films, I thought I'd make a list of some of the most high grossing books adaptions. From 'Harry Potter' to 'Forrest Gump' to 'Alice in Wonderland' to 'The Hunger Games', here are 10 Books-To-Big Screen Adaptions that killed at the box office!
1. The Bourne Ultimatum
Director: Paul Greengrass
Running time: 1 hrs. 51 min.
Production budget: $110 million
Movie based off: The Bourne novels by Robert Ludlum
The Bourne Ultimatum opened in theaters August 3rd, 2007 and closed November 29, 2007 grossing $442,824,138 worldwide. I really loved this film but I didn't know until today that it was a book first - I know what I'm getting from the library next week!
2. Forrest Gump
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Running time: 2 hrs. 21 min.
Production budget: $55 million
Movie based off: Forrest Gump novel by Winston Groom
The film opened in theaters July 8th, 1994 and closed April 21st, 1995 grossing in $677,945,399 worldwide. I bet Forrest ran a little faster after seeing them digits.
3. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1

Production budget: $120 million
Movie based Off: Twilight novels by Stephenie Meyer
The film opened in theaters November 18th, 2011 and closed February 23, 2012 grossing in $712,205,856 worldwide. Now that is some serious dough. if I say so myself' I know Summit Entertainment was rolling around in that cash.
4. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

This film opened in theaters November 22nd, 2013 and closed April 3, 2014 grossing $865,011,746 worldwide. Katniss would be proud - may the money forever be in your favor.
5. Alice in Wonderland

This cute but dark film opened in theaters March 5th, 2010 and closed July 8, 2010 grossing in $1,025,467,110 worldwide. I swear anything Tim Burton touches is magic. The man is a bona fide genius I don't care what y'all think! (Secretly I do care so tell me in the comments okay?)
6. Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park opened June 4th, 1993 and October 14th, 1994 grossing $1,029,153,888 worldwide. Who knew dinosaurs could bring in so much money - plus I never knew Jurassic Park were books! Now I wanna read the books!
7. The Dark Knight Rises

This kick ass film opened in theaters July 20th, 2012 and closed December 13, 2012 grossing in $1,084,939,099 worldwide. Money, money, money - I should try to get a job at a film company or maybe become a star! Yeah! I would never make it in the business though...
8. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Movie based on: Lord of The Ring Novels by .J.J.R Tolkien
LOTR opened in theaters December 12th, 2003 and closed June 3, 2004 grossing in $1,119,929,521 worldwide. With that money Legolas could buy like A LOT of arrows. I'm not good at math so don't ask how many... I know it has to be a lot!
9. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Movie based off: Harry Potter novels by J. K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 opened in theaters July 15th, 2011 and closed November 24, 2011 grossing in $1,341,511,219 worldwide. Like, can they share that money with poor little wittle me? I promise I'll spend it all before they change their minds!
10. Marvel's The Avengers

Movie based off: Avengers comics by Marvel
Our Avengers opened in theaters May 4th, 2012 and closed October 4, 2012 grossing in $1,519,557,910 worldwide. I wouldn't expecting anything less than the best, this movie was bound to kill in box office. It's all about the Avengers!
