If you're a fan of British comedy and independent films, going a little bit out of your way to see Convenience might be well worth your time. The film stars Ray Panthaki (Eastenders) and Adeel Akhtar (Four Lions), playing two best friends whose attempt to rob a gas station convenience store goes awry.
According to the Convenience website here's the films official synopsis:
This BAFTA winning Comedy, best described as ‘Clerks‘ meets ‘A Dog Day Afternoon‘ follows best friends Ajay (Ray Panthaki) and Shaan (Adeel Akhtar), as they attempt to rob a petrol station to clear a debt owed to some Russian gangsters from a strip club. However, things don’t go exactly to plan when they find out that the petrol station’s safe is on a time lock and won’t open until 6am. They decide to tie up the supervisor Levi (Vicky McClure), disguise themselves as workers and wait it out… with outrageous consequences.
Check out the first trailer for the movie below and see if you can spot a familiar face of Austin Powers fame:
A Mini surprise
Yup! The movie has Verne Troyer a.k.a Mini-Me, in a cowboy hat no less, playing the character of Dwight. Based on how many appearances he makes in the trailer, he either has a pretty large role in the film or his scenes will be highly memorable.
It also stars Vicky McClure from This is England
McClure plays the store's supervisor who mistakes the two men as employees who are supposed to start the next morning.
And Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Anthony Head
From the trailer, Head appears to play a drunken (or extremely tired?) patron of the store named Barry.
Let's just say, things looks like they get pretty crazy on the night shift of this gas station.
You can check out this wild cast of characters in Convenience on October 2 in UK theaters. For those of us in the US, it looks like we might just have to wait our turn.
