The ongoing "will it or won't it" saga that is Man of Steel 2 happening has been in the headlines lately, first with the rumor that [Mad Max: Fury Road](tag:41445) director George Miller was being eyeballed to direct, then the rumor that it was being put on hold indefinitely, then...well, who knows where it stands right now?

But some disheartening words came from [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870) director Zack Snyder in a recent interview, at least if you're a DC fan. Speaking with website Canoe (via CBM) about his 'Crash the Super Bowl' competition, Snyder had some interesting and carefully-chosen words when asked whether or not Man of Steel 2 was on the way:

I think in a way Batman v Superman is Man of Steel 2. Justice League is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It’d be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be.

Reading between the lines there - and it's not very hard - it appears that, for all intents and purposes, Man of Steel 2 is far, far on the backburner for Warner Bros. and DC, if on a burner at all. If they haven't even given serious thought to what a storyline might be or how it might fit into the DCEU at this point, then it's safe to say it's probably not going to happen.
