After what seemed like an eternity following the Season 8 finale, The Big Bang Theory Season 9 premiered on Monday night and it was a total emotional roller coaster the whole way through! CBS had promised us they would be delivering an awesome Season 9 premiere, and let me tell you, they did not let us down. So what happened? Well, grab some hot cinnamon rolls and let's take a look at some of the big moments of the episode.
Where we left off...
When we left The Big Bang Theory in Season 8, there was total uncertainty and a little heartbreak. Firstly Amy and Sheldon's relationship was thrust into uncertainty after Amy declared she needed some time to think, and then Sheldon revealed to the audience that he had actually purchased an engagement ring! The other bombshell of the finale was when Leonard drunkenly admitted to kissing another woman while on the boat in the North Sea. While Penny seemed to forgive him, as the Season 9 premiere episode soon showed, it obviously hurt her deeply.
Lenny's Vegas wedding
The Season 9 premiere kicked off just 11 hours after the Season 8 finale happened, and plans for Leonard and Penny's wedding were still in full swing. But the couple didn't seem all that jazzed about the idea, and Sheldon, in his depression over Amy, even tried to talk Leonard out of it! However the couple were soon in front of the altar (which was being live-streamed over the internet and watched by the gang back home), and then all the doubt was washed away when Leonard read his incredibly touching, and predictably scientific vows:
Penny, we are made of particles that have existed since the moment the universe began. I like to think those atoms traveled fourteen billion years through time and space to create us, so that we can be together and make each other whole.
Seriously, who knew science was so touching!
Penny being Penny forgot to write vows of her own, but she pulled through on her promise to "come up with something mushy" and make Leonard cry when she spoke the lyrics to "You Got a Friend in Me," from Toy Story, a movie Leonard loves.
Seriously, it was pretty touching, and it appears the Internet was in agreement:
But it wasn't all wedded bliss
After Leonard just managed to get Penny over the threshold after their wedding, there's more trouble when Penny couldn't stop imagining the "other woman" Leonard kissed. The two then had a big fight after Leonard revealed that he actually works with the other woman (Mandy) at the university, and hadn't told Penny. Whoa, way harsh. So, instead of spending their first night as a married couple together Leonard stays with Sheldon, who earlier had insulted Amy so badly (telling her that her eggs have a "sell by date!") that she broke up with him. The two men finish the episode sat in the living room, sipping tea with their relationships in tatters.
With everyone's relationships still up in the air, the ending seemed to come all too soon, and Twitter was heartbroken at the prospect of having to wait a whole week so see what would happen:
With Episode 2 hitting screens next week, I'm sure we'll have an audience eager to see both couples patch things up and love conquer all, but will it happen? I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
The Big Bang Theory episode 2 will screen on September 28th on CBS
