If you ever wondered what it takes to get your philosophical views on life, the universe and everything projected into the public sphere, sometimes advice lies in the oddest of places. Re-watching a 2013 Vice documentary recently, we were gleefully reminded of some words of wisdom shared by the queen of controversy, real-life Ukranian Barbie, Valeria Lukyanova and had to share them with you.

The world is familiar with Ms. Lukyanova thanks to her dramatic plastic like features and overtly confident manner. What's lesser known however, is that she's a self proclaimed 'astral projection expert,' who is so convinced of her supernatural calling that she apparently spent her early years warding off evil spirits. She now claims she uses her aesthetics as a PR ploy to publicize her spiritual beliefs to the wider world. Once saying:

“People don’t understand that it has nothing to do with looks. There are many good-looking young women, but why are they completely unknown? Because looks are just a bonus. If you spend time working only on your appearance and you forget about your inner self, people will not be interested in you because they will not feel anything. Many people think you need only good looks to be successful, but it’s not true—only spiritual work can bear tangible results"

Whilst that is a nice philosophy, based on her previous antics, it doesn't quite ring sincere.

In 2013, Vice released a documentary called Space Barbie focusing solely on the Ukrainian doll and her 'out-of-body' travel experiences.

They explained:

The world knows Valeria Lukyanova as the girl who turned herself into a real-life Barbie doll. Controversy has surrounded her every move since her computer-perfect visage went viral last year.

However, what most of the world doesn't know is that Valeria is not a real girl at all, but a time-traveling spiritual guru whose purpose is to save the world from the clutches of superficiality and negative energy.

Valeria, a.k.a. Space Barbie, gives us exclusive access to her world to show us how physical perfection truly is the best medium through which to deliver life-changing philosophy to the human race.

Here are a few stills from the documentary, to give you a feel:

Meet Amatue, Valeria's alter ego. She kind of looks like the lovechild of Spock, David Bowie and Lady Gaga:

Amatue claims that her aim is to come to this planet to make people realize that we need to make a transition from the role of human consumer to human demigod. "I am everything, everything is love and love is God."

Okay, then.

Before the release of Space Barbie Vice got us in the mood with the below photo shoot which features Valeria Lukyanova in various bizarre pseudo-spiritual settings, such as being covered in cockroaches and throwing a load of white feathers around. Here they are, alongside some of her best quotes from the documentary...

"If a nun starts talking about spirituality, will anyone notice her? No, no one will."

"I think that people who try to look like dolls are essentially seeking fame."

"Perhaps at some point I was an energy vampire."

"In the majority of my past lives I was a man. I've always occupied a dominating position in whichever society I have lived."
