Warning: Potential spoilers for Gotham and Batman: The Court of Owls storyline

'Tis the season for Comic book TV shows! Season 2 of Gotham kicked off Monday night. The season premiere was packed with even more drama, excitement, and hype. it was titled 'Rise of the Villains,' and led us through an Arkham breakout, which introduced many new characters to the table. During the episode, Penguin was shown as being the top dog of the crime world. But what caught my attention was the possibility of the appearance of the Court of Owls, with the appearance of the Galavan siblings. And with the siblings generation old rivalry and hatred against the city and its powerful families, it could lead to a Court of Owls appearance.

Who Are the Court of Owls?

If you are not familiar with the Court of Owls, they are a secret organization, that essentially controls Gotham. The Court is run by some of Gotham's oldest and most powerful families. They are extremely secretive and hidden, even Batman has a hard time tracking them down. They use an assassin called the Talon to do their bidding for them, who ends up running into Batman. The Court of Owls first appeared in the New 52 Batman series called Batman: The Court of Owls.

Will We Be Seeing the Court of Owls on Gotham?

Ben Heller, the executive producer and showrunner of Gotham got a chance to talk to Comicbook.com about the possibility of The Court of Owls making an official appearance on the show in Season 2:

"Yeah, absolutely I'm interested. I don't want to say that it's part of - I don't even want to say that, because I don't want to spoil part of the story," Heller said while chuckling, "The Court of Owls is deep, deep, deep Gotham mythology. The comic book fans know about it, but I would suspect the larger audience is not so familiar. We sometimes have to make a distinction between the 'Nolan era Batman movie fans' and the comic book fans. It's not that they are two separate audiences, just that they are two levels of engagement. Court of Owls is very much deep DC mythology.
"We are absolutely going to explore that world down the line. Looking at the longevity of the show, we have to hold some cards back, we can't just throw all the elements, all of the stories at once," he explained, "The long arc of the show is Bruce Wayne's journey of discovery down into the depth of the physical and mental world of Gotham. The Court of Owls is a brilliant conceit that will absolutely be part of our storytelling. I just won't tell you when."

Heller does take time to clarify that he thinks that they made a mistake by trying to cram as many villains as they could into the first season. I agree that they should take their time, and am looking forward to them going more in depth with the development of the heroes and villains of Gotham city.

Whether the Galavan siblings are the key to a peek at the mysterious Court of Owls or not, we do get the idea that we will be seeing them down the road. The real question to me, though, is when? I hope that the appearance will be sooner than later, but what are you going to do?
