Throughout the history of film, movies have often relied on using big name stars to draw in audiences. We're used to seeing our favorite actors front-and-center of the screen, appearing as main, or supporting characters. However, have you ever been watching a scene and had the sudden feeling that the extra in the background looks seriously familiar? Maybe they're someone you once met, perhaps they've been on an ad on TV? or maybe, just maybe they were actually one of these 9 celebrities who appeared in these blink-and-you'll-miss-them cameos in some of our favorite films? Take a look and see how many you've noticed before:
1. Steve Buscemi In 'Pulp Fiction' (1994)
Steve Buscemi cameo'd in Pulp Fiction as the waiter Buddy Holly in Jack Rabbit Slim's, after having to turn down the role of Jimmie due to scheduling conflicts. The fact that Buscemi plays a waiter in Pulp Fiction is a tip of the hat to his character in Tarantino's 1992 film Reservoir Dogs, Mr. Pink, who refused to tip wait staff.
2. Kathy Griffin In 'Pulp Fiction' (1994)
Kathy Griffin cameos as an on-looker in the scene just after Butch hits Marsellus Wallace with his car.
3. Dan Aykroyd In 'Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom' (1984)
Dan Aykroyd makes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo as Englishman 'Weber' who leads Indy, Shortround and Willie to the plane after they're being chased by Lao Che.
4. Ron Jeremy In 'Ghostbusters' (1984)
Adult film star Ron Jeremy makes a cameo appearance in Ghostbusters as the "Man Behind Barricade." He can be seen on the very left of a crowd shot shortly after the containment unit explosion at the Ghostbusters headquarters.
5. Glenn Close In 'Hook' (1991)
Glenn Close had a very small role in the Robin Williams film Hook. Close played Gutless the pirate, who doubted Captain Hook and was punished with a stint in the 'boo box' (truly a scary scene when I was a child).
6. George Lucas and Carrie Fisher In 'Hook' (1991)
Hook is full of brilliant celebrity cameos! In the scene when Tinkerbell takes Peter back to Neverland, George Lucas and Carrie Fisher make a cameo as the kissing couple who begin to float after some of Tink's fairy dust lands on them.
7. Matt Damon In 'EuroTrip' (2004)
Matt Damon makes a surprising cameo in EuroTrip as Donny, the tattooed and pierced lead singer of a rock band that Scott's girlfriend, Fiona leaves him for.
8. Cynthia Nixon In 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' (2008)
In the bar scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, a drunk Peter makes a joke while sipping a cocktail about being Samantha from in Sex and the City and talking to Miranda, meanwhile the real Miranda, Cynthia Nixon walks behind him.
9. Cate Blanchett In 'Hot Fuzz'
Hot Fuzz has a few cameo appearances, one of them being Peter Jackson as a crazed Santa, and the other being Cate Blanchett as Nicholas Angel's jilted ex-girlfriend, Janine. If you didn't notice her, you're not alone, after all she was entirely covered up, except for her eyes, as she worked on a forensic scene in the movie. According to the directors commentary of the film Blanchett actually asked not to be credited for her role, and gave her appearance fee to charity.
Got any other great overlooked cameos to add to the list?
