Hello Again, Everyone!

Alright ladies and gentlemen, for Day 2 of the 5 Day Recommendation Challenge I will be recommending a cult movie you most likely haven't seen or heard of yet. Now, I am aware of the fact that there are a lot of cult favorites out there and so, once again, choosing just one was quite the challenge. I decided to go for a movie I bought on DVD when it was first released in 2005, a cult classic that stars two actors I was obsessed with at the time:

Recommendation: Brick (2005) Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emilie de Ravin

Here's what Brick's all about:

After receiving a frantic phone call from his ex-girlfriend (Emilie de Ravin), teenage loner Brendan Frye (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) learns that her dead body has been found. Vowing to solve her murder himself, he must infiltrate high-school cliques that he previously avoided. His search for the truth places him before some of the school's roughest characters, leading to a confrontation with a drug dealer known as "the Pin."

Sounds cool right? That's because Brick is all kinds of cool. The film was shot during the high days of Lost, and one of my favorite characters on the show happened to be Claire, played by Emilie de Ravin. I can't remember what made me want to watch the movie but I'm guessing she might have had something to do with it. It's quite an indie film and the narrative takes some getting used to, it's confusing at times, i'm not going to lie. Nonetheless this one definitely shines in its simplicity and though this neo-noir thriller was created on a small budget, it is one heck of a ride, beginning to end. It doesn't surprise me one bit that this cult classic went on to win the Special Jury Prize for Originality of Vision at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.

What about the title, you ask? Well, Brick is a reference to a block of heroin, compressed to the size and the shape of - you guessed it - a brick. Yes, again with the heroin, i'm starting to sense a theme here. Fear not, I promise the next recommendation won't be drug-related.

I nominate Sam Pellegrino, Jared Ficiur, Jacob Craig, Adam Boshie Bosher and Bridget Case to keep the challenge-train moving. Remember to tag 5 Moviepilot Creators for each post!
