If you're a true Potterhead like I am, you have probably read the books over and over, had movie binge-watching parties with fellow HP nerds in which you dressed up as your favorite characters, and read J.K. Rowling's Twitter updates like there is no tomorrow.
However, even the most dedicated Potter fan might find the following details pretty surprising. There are some connections we don't necessarily see ourselves, and discussing it with others who are into all the Pottermania might aid in discovering even more about the series we think we already know so much about.
1. More Magical Schools
Rowling has stated that besides Hogwarts, there are five more foreign Wizarding schools: one in France, one in Brazil, one in New England, one in Northern Europe, and one for the Wizarding Dramatic Arts.
2. Magic Among the Muggles
Muggle born wizards and witches inherit their magical abilities due to an ancestor marrying a muggle.
3. Patronus Privation
George Weasley's happiest memories include his late brother Fred, and therefore he will never again be able to produce a Patronus.
4. No Happy Death Eater
J.K. Rowling has also stated that no Death Eater besides Severus Snape has ever been able to produce a Patronus, or at least none of them have thought to try.
5. You Know I Don't Speak Parseltongue
After the Wizarding War and the defeat of Voldemort, Harry is no longer able to speak Parseltongue.
6. Sirius Black is a Full On Badass
Sirius Black's tattoos are taken from those seen on members of Russian prison gangs. They mean to show that the person baring them is to be feared and respected.
7. A Smarty by Any Other Name
Rowling chose the name "Hermione," as it is incredibly unique with very few people who actually have it as their name. She figured she would have grown up teased for it, especially being intelligent and bossy.
8. Hogwarts Smells Better Than You Think
J.K. Rowling isn't quite sure, but she believes she might have subconsciously gotten it from a hogwart or hogweed plants she saw in the Kew Gardens in New York City.
9. Hagrid Is the Ultimate Bachelor
By 2017, Hagrid is 88 years old and although he never marries, he does have a relationship with a giantess.
10. The Only Girl
Ginny Weasley is the first female born into the Weasley family for several generations.
11. Dementor's Holding a Mirror to Dudley's Soul
While Dudley was being attacked by Dementors, he finally saw himself the way he really is. This made him realize he needed to change.
12. But Fred Wasn't There
It all begins at 3:04.
In the second part of Deathly Hallows, the Weasleys see that Harry isn't actually dead. George turns around to say "Fred," but then he remembers he wasn't there.
13. No Love
Voldemort was never able to truly love anybody because he was conceived under the effect of a love potion.
14. Voldemort Trapped in Limbo
Voldemort fails to become a ghost after death, as his soul was split too many times to form Horcruxes. He is instead trapped in limbo.
15. Malfoy's Mind
Malfoy may have never been excellent at producing Patronuses, but he excelled in Occlumency, which Harry could never quite get down.
16. Love Triangle
James always had an inkling that Snape was in love with Lily. This is part of the reason he would tease him so much. Lily would have actually ended up with Severus had he not been so into the Dark Arts.
17. Umbridge Gets a Taste of Her Own Medicine
Umbridge was arrested, tried, and finally carted off to Azakaban for her crimes against Muggle-borns.
18. Professor Potter
As an adult, Harry would occasionally make visits to Hogwarts to give guest lectures on Defense Against the Dark Arts.
19. Unemployed James
When Petunia Dursley talked about Harry's father James, she was actually correct. James inherited so much money from his family, he never needed to have a career.
20. The Truth About Dean Thomas' Dad
Dean and his mother think his father walked out on them when he was younger, but neither know that his father actually died at the hands of Death Eaters when he refused to join them. They weren't even aware that he was a wizard.
I hate to admit it, but a few of these even had me surprised. And just when I thought I knew everything there is to know about the Wizarding World and Harry Potter.
Wiggleson, please keep the trivia coming! I bet there are loads more to learn about the books and films.
